Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Saturday, June 26, 2010

Outstanding day on the water. Waited out the morning storm and fished until the afternoon one. I used to think that fishing slowed down after bad weather. All these fronts that have come through the last week have had little effect on the fishing. We put in at Beaver and ran south and fished west side in 14 fow. Pulled cranks and had great success with the walleyes and northern. I think in all we caught 5 different species. It was not fast and furious like last week but why travel 50 miles to spend 2 hours on the lake.
Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, June 21, 2010
Had boats fishing north and south of Beaver this last weekend.  Saturday brought good fishing with limits by 1pm.  Most fish were caught Saturday south of Beaver live baiting with crawlers and bottom bouncers in 12-15 foot of water.  The boats we had up north seen a little tougher fishing but still caught some nice fish.

Sunday was more of a lazy day on the water putting in about two hours before we had to call it quits. Still managed to pick up six nice walleyes pulling cranks south of Beaver. The northern pike didn't forget about us either, catching numerous with most caught pulling crank baits.  All in all the fishing is still great around the Beaver Bay area and should continue to do so as the nicer weather rolls in.  It was a great weekend to be on the water.

Went out Sat and Sun this weekend.  Both days were awesome.   Lots of boats and the usual boomers out with the big rigs.  Had to show em up.  Sat we went to fill the freezer, we kept the fish that were around 20inch.  Cranks 17-19FOW - we were done quickly - fished around porc.   Sunday we decided to go in devils lake mode and hit slaughterhouse with believe it or not husky jerks.  We went into the trees and started nailing em.  All I could think of was that the eyeballs were after those little northerns and the jerks (just like back in the 90s on DL) enticed the bite.   The eyeballs were bigger then the saturday in porcupine.   We slaughtered them in slaughterhouse.  7-10FOW fishing cottons.  FISHON!

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, June 14, 2010
Fished Beaver Bay on Lake Oahe late Friday afternoon. We made one pass by Prairie Knights Casino and didn’t have any luck. It’s just one of those places where you know the fish are going to move into and it’s just a matter of time before they do. So, we kept on moving north to other high percentage areas fishing channel edges and finally ran into a nice group of Lake Oahe walleye. In an hour we had our fish while catching and releasing others all before 7pm.

Saturday brought cooler temps but we still managed to boat numerous walleye in the 17-19 inch range along with a 20, 21 and 25 inch walleye, which were all very big fish for 20 inch plus weight classes.

Sunday, fishing was tough for the one boat we had out. Only managed five decent walleye by noon and we decided to pack up and call it a weekend. The first spot we went to produced four out of the five fish caught and all were boated before 10am, which we decided to move south and there was no bite for us to find. It sounds like live bait may have been the ticket, but decided to grind it out with crank baits.

It sounds like the Missouri River bite near Bismarck has heated up again as we had a few boats out over the weekend and today with walleye fishing being very good, which is great news for this time of year.
All in all, nothing short of world class of fishing on Lake Oahe and the Missouri River. Walleye fishing should continue to get better with warmer temps still on their way.

Lake Oahe – Missouri River Fishing Report

Had boats on the water Friday, Saturday and Sunday walleye fishing Lake Oahe.  Fishing was world class once again with easy limits of fish taken each day.  Friday we went south of Beaver Bay and pulled cranks in numerous different areas catching fish in pretty much every area possible. Fishing was best in 10-12 foot of water with white colored baits working the best.  Most walleyes ranged from 17-20 inches with a two fish that were 21+ inchers.  The northern pike also made their presence known catching numerous pulling crank baits. We also managed to land some bonus white bass for our efforts.

Saturday and Sunday we had three boats on the water with the same success.  Cranks were working once again, but did slow a bit in the morning so we switched it over to bottom bouncers with crawlers and leaches and it seemed to make the difference catching and releasing numerous fish over 20 inches.

The weather was great and made for a memorable weekend of walleye fishing on Lake Oahe.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Saturday: Started walleye fishing Lake Oahe south of Beaver Bay in an area that we had been catching a lot of fish. Caught a few, but nothing special. So, we picked up and headed back towards Beaver Bay and actually fished a couple spots in the Bay, catching a few pulling cranks baits. We picked up, went and did a pull with crank baits around the Prairie Knights Marina area and picked up a couple nice walleye. The wind picked up, so we headed south again and the fish were there. Despite some big waves, we ended the day around 3pm with 12 nice Lake Oahe walleyes all 16-21 inches in length, around 7 northern pike and a few nice white bass. Steady action and great fun once again on Lake Oahe.

Sunday: Lake Oahe Walleye fishing was a little colder and still a bit breezy but had one that put in at noon and by 2pm they had 15 walleyes that were all 19 – 23 inches, pulling crank baits along windy shores south of Beaver Bay. Depths were 8-10 foot of water with # 5’s and 7”s. White colors produced the best.

Monday: Fished Lake Oahe once again. Couldn’t ask for a better day for weather conditions. For the most part winds were light to nothing and a high of around 75+ degrees. Pulled in one area south of Beaver and started pulling cranks with no luck after about an hour. Made one move and pulled the same depth and the action was fast and furious. We had our 15 in just over and hour while catching and releasing numerous other. Fish were bigger than what we’ve been catching. We had quite a few fish that were 20 inches or better along with this nice Lake Oahe Walleye that went over 23 inches. Watch the online video!     Watch online Video 2!

Expect the walleye fishing on Lake Oahe to get better and better along with the nicer weather. But, now is the time to get out there as the fish are really moving in. By the looks of the cleaning station, mostly everyone is catching fish. Good luck.

Fished Ft Rice, used bottom bouncer and 2 to 4 foot Snell double hook a different colored beads,  caught 11 eyes between the 3 or us.  lost a few more.  The bit was tough,  some fisherman didn't get a bite.  fished 16 to 22 feet, no special depth.   Great day to be on the water. light breeze, thank God.
Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Sunday, May 23, 2010
Had boats out of of Lake Oahe in around the Beaver Bay area Saturday and Sunday. Saturday fishing was all to the south of cattail. With high winds fishing was limited to a few spots and finished one shy of a two person limit. Cranks seemed to be the ticket in 8-14 foot of water. There were other boats that did better and other that did worse.

Sunday: Fished for a few hours north of Beaver Bay and Prairie Knights Casino. Did run into one area that was holding a number of fish in 18 foot of water along a channel break. Made three passes with crank baits and had eight walleyes from 16-19 inches, about five northern pike and one white bass.

Expect the Lake Oahe bite to really pick up over the next week as fish keep filtering down from the river.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, May 17, 2010
Saturday and Sunday we had boats fishing from Beaver Bay and south to the State Line area. Nicer fish were found deeper around the Langliers and State Line area pulling crank baits in 20 – 28 foot of water and it seemed like white baits were doing the trick.

Further to the north of Langliers numerous fish were caught once again pulling crank baits.  Only this time it seemed fish were holding in shallow water right along sunken tree lines.  Again, white baits were catching numerous fish, but a variety of others were also producing like the #5 jointed as it lured in this 25 ½ inch tank.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Friday, April 30, 2010
Had a guide out this morning walleye fishing the Missouri River and fishing wasn't hot once again.  LakeOaheGuide.COM, Jeff and another caught and released around 25 walleye with the the biggest being this 30+ inch 10lb walleye.  Another 25 and a couple 23's were also put back.  All fish were caught shallow with jigs and a minnow or jigs and plastics.  Pretty neat to see all these big fish around again.
Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Wednesday, April 21, 2010
Walleye fishing is really picking up on the Missouri River around Bismarck with water clarity improving each day.  Walleyes are being caught north and south of Bismarck as shallow as a foot and we’ve also been seeing numbers caught in deeper waters up to 30 foot.  Best methods have been either vertical jigging or pitching jigs tipped with minnows.  As long as the weather remains manageable, the Big Muddy Walleye Tourney should bring in some nice weights.

The Lake Oahe bite still remains a bit slow with dirty water conditions.  This should continue to improve over the next week or so.  Missouri river walleye fishing pictures from this week.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, April 5, 2010
Went to open things up at the cabin this past weekend. Ice is off from just south of the Rivery and north. There was a boat that docked at Beaver Bay and was fishing just below the Rivery. The water looked to be really muddy so I would give a week or two. There was still ice from Langliers and south. Most bays were open or partially open so that might be good for northern pike fishing. A few were shore fishing the spillway inside Pollock Bay which looked to be mostly open. Also stopped at Hazelton and water clarity was pretty bad there as well. Water levels are up again and should be at full or near full capacity soon. Give it another week or two for the water to clear up and some activity should pick up nicely.
