Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Monday, June 29, 2009
Sunday morning I took the long 12 mile drive to PK casino, (I just love the < 1 mile trip) I had to be back at the Casino at noon to eat seafood Sunday with my wife on her lunch break. We started at 8, and by noon I was walking into The Feast with a 2-man limit in the cooler. We released about 6 14 inchers one 27 incher, and the keepers were all between 16-22 inches. Oh I forgot to try to bet my gas money back at the blackjack table, I usually quit when I'm $10-15 ahead to pay for the gas.

Fished out of Beaver Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. Friday evening I was by myself and fished by the Prairie Knights Casino Marina pulling plugs in 12-30 feet. Had my limit along with releasing a few in between. Most fish were 15-20 inches with one 27 ½ incher that was a little on the skinny side, but still a good looking fish. Saturday did some work around the cabin and were in the water by around

Put in at Beaver Bay and fished near Cattail on Sunday morning. Wind wasn't as bad as Saturday but still pretty nasty. Ended up with 12 keepers between 15"-22". Caught all fish on cranks in 16'-20'. Storm thunderstick jr's in wonderbread color seemed to be the ticket today.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Sunday, June 21, 2009
Fathers day weekend - it was time to stop flippin for largemouths and go walleye fishing. We boated out of prairie knights. I have to admit it has been a very long time since i have fished this area - the area has been dry for so long - now all one sees is water. We ran down to yates and seen that the followers were all going to cattail bay. We decided to start at porcupine. Picked up a northern right away. My mind went to days when these waters were so full of gators (northerns) and now with all the flooded trees the gator will rule again. Anyway we were snaggin up big time and decided to move north. morning we really didnt have much to show - tried to fish the trees like devils and finally my kid looked at me and said when in rome do as the romans do. The wind is blowing and hate trying guide the boat around with rigs on. We took out the crankin rods my son ran a #5 (firetiger)shad rap with two colors of lead; I ran #7 black and white one color of lead and we ran another #5 with a blue chrome and a snap weight - 15-18FOW - gps speed 2.4mph . We picked up our limit within a few hours; also caught 3 white bass and 8 lb carp on a shad rap and a about 5 northerns for the day of which one took a dive into a tree and we pulled the 8 foot long tree in along witha a good 6 lbs pike. My kid thought he had the record on. Oahe is only to get better. Food fishing - Short

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Was out fishing with the inlaws for the past week. We fished in South Dakota the first 5 days, it rained Saturday (6) threw Tuesday (9) we did fish at old Kennel an we did pick up some Walleye 7 on Saturday, 12 on Sunday, 17 on Monday, 7 on Tuesday 5 on Wednesday this was during the rain most of all our fish were caught on boncers with a crawler. I asked my inlaws if anyone works anymore we counted 67 boats on Wednesday at old Kennel an when we went north to the state line it was a little less pressure but way to many to even think about pulling a crack. Thursday never fished had a fish fry we packed up to mover to Praire Knight. Friday fished right across the dock from the Marina right at the tree area to the north a little ended up with 15 (3 of us in the boat) nice fish we had other around us doing just as good. Saturday (4 in the boat) caught our 20 right at the same spot. Sunday fish fry went down to cattail bay we only caught 1 went back up to the casino an caught 2 more an called it enough. We seen plenty of boats on the water everyone having a good time. I did run across one thing at the fish cleaning station at the Marina a couple of older guys who didn't turn the grinder on before putting their fish inn causing a mess...it's not just a place to clean fish an walk away tinking they will be gone some how. They ( casino grounds keepers ) must have been over to fix things 4 or 5 times an that is about the only thing that Is causing it not to work right..... anyway good time had by all.........Prairie Knights is running the boat back an forth for those of you on the east side to spend some money..... Prairie Knights ( Keep up the good work your doing one hell of a job...glad to see we have water again.........

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Sunday, June 14, 2009
Dani’s parents went out on Sunday so instead of driving back up to New Town another three hours (we were coming back from a wedding in Fargo) I decided to just ride with them down to Beaver. We headed toward Cattail to a spot they did well on Friday. On Friday they landed 15 nice keeper walleyes between three people ranging from 18 to 22 inches. All plump and healthy. Took only about two hours to get them all using lindy and jigs in about 14 to 20 feet of water.
Dani and I went on Sunday with them. It was a little slower with four of us boating 15 keepers between 15 and 22 inches (only one fish was 15 inches and the rest bigger). Same thing with lindy and jigs…mostly lindys. Fish again are in very good condition down that way. What a change of pace from up north!!!!!! As stated, it was a little slower for us with us not getting a four person limit (Dani lost two at the boat…one net whoops and another that just lost grip). The second lost fish was a pretty nice looking fish. I’d guess between 24 to 25”. Enough to get me half excited as the net man. Water temps I think were high 60’s. Plenty of boats out and other anglers were doing okay it seemed. Dani’s uncle was out and they did get their 20 keepers. Oahe is definitely a step ahead or two or three of Sakakawea but it is welcoming to know that if we keep water Sakakawea will catch up in due time. Unbelievable to, by the way, with how much flooding timber and debris is on the bottom of the lake. If I had a dime for every tree a person rips up and brings to the surface I’d be a millionaire… |

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Sunday, June 14, 2009
Fished out of Beaver Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. All three days produced alot of fish and yes, bumper boats was the game on Saturday. Like in the previous report, it wasn't as crazy as it has been the last month, but was still really good fishing. Fish were caught pulling cranks and live bait worked really well too. Today we just pulled lindys and spinners and were done in about 1 1/2 hours. Not near the boats today. All in all, it was a great weekend with friends and family, great weather and what a place to live! Next weekend it's down to Pollock, SD for the Pollock Mens Club tourney. Sounds like they're going to have around 100 or so teams, which is great to see for that community. Sounds like the fish have really been on a tear down that way as well. We'll see what the weather does to them this week?

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Friday, June 12, 2009
Fished out of Beaver Bay with a buddy on Friday. Took about 4 hours to get our fish and was a beautiful day to be on the water. Fishing wasn't as fast and furious as last weekend but quality was impressive. Biggest of the day was a tad under 24". #5 shad raps were once agin the ticket for us. Lot's of boats so we explored a little to find a spot to ourselves.

This report is more of a heads up to all other anglers that are fishing out of the Langleir's Bay boat landing. We went out last Sunday in the rain and did pretty well trolling cranks in 20' of water. Upon returning to the boat ramp, i realized that someone had stolen the tool box out of the back of my truck. There were only about 8 trailers down there that day and we were the 5th baot in the water 3 were gone when we got off the water. If anyone happens to have any info regarding my stolen tool box, please let me know. The box was a red plastic Craftsman box with a black top. It contains misc. hand tools, level, welding tools, wrenches, saw, screwdrivers, etc.
So just a tip to anyone fishing out of Langleir's, keep everything locked in you cab or it might dissapear!!! |

mnfishing - I don't think it matters what you use. I've had them all out and some produce more than others at different times. It's always different. I would focus on shorelines in the 8-12 foot of water range and alot of the fish have been coming south of the Prairie Knights Casino ramp. You won't miss the areas because there will be boats there. But, good places to fish should be right in front of the marina in about 20-30 foot of water. If you go much more shallow you might run into some snags in that area. There should also be fish starting to load up to the north east of the marina about a mile or so.

Didn't get on the water till later Friday afternoon. Fished the Beaver Bay area and again, same situation. Three person limit in about an hour. Biggest was 25 inches. Ended up catching and releasing around 30 or so in around three hours of fishing. Pulled cranks in 10-12 feet of water. Also tried crawlers, spinners and lindy rigs, same story. Saturday was alot of rain and didn't get out till late afternoon. Only managed 5 nice ones in two hours of fishing, but it was cold and wet! No fun, so we packed it up and headed in for steaks and beverages.
