Had a good weekend on the ice with some good fish getting pulled out.  There are some really nice fish coming through the ice, with some limits coming in. From what I have seen there is more of a quality bite than a quantity bite with some really nice fish coming in with most fish getting caught over 20 inches with some as big as 25 inches.  The ice is pretty good even with all the warm weather this past week, at least the forecast for this week looks promising for making a little ice.  Good luck and stay safe!

We had pretty good success this weekend catching some nice fish through the ice.  We finally have enough ice to get out and move around.  The ice has been a little sketchy with the warm weather we've been having and still is in some areas, you really need to be carefull for pressure ridges and open cracks.  If a person stays away from these areas most of the ice is bout 12 inches thick.  We caught mostly Walleyes with a few northerns mixed in.  Most the walleyes we caught were in the 18 to 20 inch range but there have been some pretty big ones mixed in. I hate to say it and I should be careful what I wish for but we could really use a cold snap to freeze things up a bit.  From what I saw this weekend there's some good fishing to be had as long as we can get out there.  Be safe out there and Good Luck!

fished by Fort Yates Sat.  2 Guys 5 walleye and a perch. Nice size but slow.  Three over 20 inches  Jigged one, four on dead sticks.  Missed about 5 or 6.   Bobber or tip-ups definitely outperforming jigging this year.  no particular jig/hook better than other...treble.glow airplane, orange gumball...no matter.  15 fow on transition between 10 and a large flat 20ish.  Decent ice 4 to 8 inches...a little messed up by shore but only couple inches of water to walk thru.  Good temps to maintain or grow some more.  Be safe.  Pressure ridges with open water that may close up barely.

The date on that almost grotesque walleye should have been Friday Sept 9th, not posted till the 14th..   BTW, the water was still surprisingly muddy - vis 1 - 2 feet.  Walleye caught on leech and chartruese/green spinner.

Two boats of us fished Eckroth out of Hazelton Friday.   Caught one small smallmouth, and one monster walleye between two boats.  She was 29 to the fork and a hair over 30 inches to the tip.  None of us had seen such an enormously thick and deep walleye.   We figured she'd be pushing around 10 pounds.  No scale.  We let her go to either lay eggs or have someone needing a wall hangar catch her later.   The most impressive fish I've caught since my 24 1/2 pound Northern on a fly!

Put in at Hazelton went over to Ekrath tried spinners with a crawler had a few hit got one drum.  Went back to the boat dock and tried crawler along the trees not a bit.  Put the cranks on caught one 16" Eye and went over to Huff boat dock starting to get dark head back caught one more 12" Eye current is moving.   Talked to antoher fella he had been out all day and only caught one eye he kept and some smaller ones.  Slow day.  Brother said they are catching fish south of Bis.  Wonder what they are using.  My thoughts are if they are out for 10 hours to get 10 fish why things are slow.  Good luck as the river seem to clear up more and more each day.

Fished the early morning hours pulling cranks and caught 2 eyes, one that was around 7 pounds. Had luck with almost anything.... jigging, lindy rigs, worms and minnows. We caught nice northerns also mixing in a few drums.. all fun to catch. Find slack water and flooded areas. All eyes kept were nice and fat and around 16 to 19 inches. One thing that was dissapointing in the middle of the day was a boater riding right up on us as we pulled in a big walleye. We were pretty upset and asked them to move as we were fishing right where he was trolling up to, he responded by saying it was a public river.... real jerk. We responded back by saying that if he were in the same position and he still continues to make an a$$ out of himself if front of his wife... finally getting the point and staying clear but coming close as he could to be a jerk. This same thing happened to my friend who was with that went out the next day..... Boats see you catching fish and don't care about common curtousy, just moving right up to where your fishing........... It is a public river and you can fish where ever you want. We were the first ones out in the morning and had been in our spot for a couple of hours before boats moved in. Lots of River............... FIND YOUR OWN SPOT. If you don't know how and where to find fish>>>> Ask I am always posting tips of where I went, depths, what I used..... As many good people out there do. I love that people are out fishing with there families and wish everybody to have a great trip out everytime they go out...... If the weather is nice and your with family... catching fish is the added bonus. Please as fall fishing continues, be curtious and respectful to others on the water.

Happy Fishing Eveybody!........ its only going to get better.

Fished south of Bismarck this long holiday weekend both Saturday and Monday.  Seems as if the fall bite may be starting a little earlier this year, with limits coming pretty easy both days. Most fish in the 15 to 18 inch range with a few bigger ones mixed in.  Most came on a jig and a minnow presentation and also heard  there are some fish getting caught on crankbaits.  If this is any indication of what is coming we should be in for a heck of a good fall!

Fished Beaver bay area slow cuaght 1 walleye and perch miss some bites probally bait robbing perch.  Went south a couple miles fished east side caught 4 small walleye, tried cranks no luck.  All fish caught on leeches.  Didn't matter used jigs bottom bouncers and lindy rig couldn't catch unless leech had crawlers with gave up on them.  Action was slow but nice day to be on the water.

Well day 2 of the 4th weekend takes us from docking in at beaver creek bay in sak to beaver bay in Oahe.  I had heard the stories of logs floating etc in the main channel.   The bay and the main channel had some logs floating --- keep your eyes open and dont go to fast and you should be alright.  I heard a merc wind up like he hit one and spun the prop.  No issues as far as getting around.    Anyway back to the report:  - a bunch of boats lined up against the bridge wall.   We had to check it out just in case if the bite was going.   From what we caught in that area --- all dinks and crappie.   We spent to much time doing that and then made the decission to go out into the main lake and try it.   I told my son lets try crankin this mud -- i went and tied on my medium cranks and small cranks with leadcore to get them down.  My son opens his tackle box and puts on a super sized walley diver (mag).   I looked at him and shook my head.  We started to roll and boom two fish on his cranks right away--- i thought they were northerns ---- i told him take the most bent over one first and i tried to maintain the boat.   Nice pig  26 and then another pig 21.   Well i hurried and put two big cranks on mine--- the problem was i only had one other cranking rod without lead core .   We ran a  bombers, a thunderstick and mag wally diver.  The FOW was 15-19   We ended up catching 4 more ---  20 and a three dinks.  The wind really came up and the fish went shallow in my opinion.   White bass moved in and that ended our afternoon picking up 3  of em.    We spent to much time in the bay and should of hit the mud right away -- as the bite seemed good right away.   Water temp was 67 --- to 74 in the bay.

Dont be scared of the mud or the logs fish the spots you fished last year and you will be surprised.    Go big on your bait or go home.   Let em hear ya.
