The fishing derby will be Saturday the 13th of March. Time is from 12.00 Noon to 4.00PM. Tickets available at the derby. Registration is from 11.30 to 12.00. Prizes are as follows. Walleye 1st 150.00 2nd 100.00. Bluegill 1st 150.00 2nd GPS 3rd 100.00. Pike 1st 200.00 2nd Underwater Camera 3rd 75.00 Perch 1st 125.00 2nd 100.00. Experienced something I've never seen before on the lake this trip. Was fishing for walleyes and put the camera down and could see maybe 3 feet. The water looked like it had milk in it. No floating debris or anything like that but very cloudy. Does anyone know what this phenomenon is? I emailed the NDGF and am waiting for an answer. It has definately affected the fishing as the last 5-6 times out we have had no walleye hits and only small northerns. Time to move? Wait till snow starts to melt? Quit fishing? Nah--hope somebody has an answer. X their eyes!!!

The east side of McKay Island and more to north the weeds are to the bottom of the ice. Hope that helps you out. I'm sure that they will be dropping down soon and fish will be moving to deeper water.

Fished 6 different spots on Saturday and caught Gills in everyone of them. Did have some couldy water but it didn't affect the fish biting. Did find anywhere form 8inchs of ice all the way to 24inches with alot of slush pockets on the ice.I fyou are going to fish you better bring a sled if you plan on going very far.

I too have noticed the cloudy stuff. I usually have found it in the morning and it usually clears by mid afternoon and the fish start biting, but never see it late in the day. If there are weeds nearby, maybe they are dying and giving off cloudy stuff??

Went out yesterday PM and when looking through the camera the water had a cloudy look to it. Two weeks ago we noticed this same cloud about 50 feet to our east. Now the water under the house has the same cloudy look. What's going on? Any clarification (pun intended) would be appreciated. I'm wondering if we're starting to see the effects of deep snow on the lake and there is some putrification going on. Keep your tip up!!

After the storms this weekend getting around the lake in a 4x4 pickup is almost impossible. The lake is covered in deep snow and slush. I walked to my fish house on Saturday night. while carrying my auger. Few bites and no fish. |

The last two weeks have been pretty slow. I posted on the 6th of January and have had little to no success since. I have been out 2-3 times each week for the last two weeks and have seen perch on the camera and a few canner northerns. (less than 24") Called to find out about the Jaycee's tournament but was unable to get any specifics. Planned on going to Grano tomorrow but with the weather coming in I think I'll stay home and fish here. Keep your line tight!! Rod N Reel

Fished Sat. and while action was poor most of day, last 45 minutes were out of this world. I found that the fish were buried in the weeds during the day, they rose above the weeds near dark. While drilling, I found an interesting bug, looked like a shrimp similar to Devils Lake, but was white in color with a tannis tail about 1.5" long. Relased many perch(to 8") and Bluegills, brought home 17 up to 11". 2tone tear drop and spikes were the ticket. There was spots with about a foot of water on the ice so travel with a vehicle was tricky

Fished from 4:00 to 6:30 and caught 2-18 inch walleyes and 1-13 inch walleye in about 12 FOW.

Auggie, there are lots of fish out there sometimes real tough to find. I will be up there tomorrow and can give you a update if you wish, shoot me a message at getthenetnd@hotmail and I will let you know what is up. And yes, many crappies I find in the winter too!
