Yeah I've seen those same things in the shallows. At first I was thinking smallmouth because I know they love crawfish. But I'm pretty sure those are all scraps left behind by beavers and muskrats......just my theory!

Lake Darling Observations

Something that I found interesting last weekend was that as I cruised around the lake on the south end, I noticed that in those weedy areas there were dead crawfish and bullheads belly up all over?

I hear you Ben the weeds are terrible. Ya just can't fish anywhere. I have been up north as well and you deal with the same problems weeds out in the channel even. I hope something is done about it but I am sure not. It sucks when your favorite place to go in your free time is swamped over. Its depressing.

Took a ride up to the lower end of Lake Darling yesterday.
the weather sure has been hard on this end of the lake. Landing 3 is weeded in, there is a lot of algea also. Landing 1 looks a little better but the water is really low due to evaporation and nothing coming in from Canada.
There is quite a bit of blue/green algea at the ramp, shorelines, along the dam as well as being pretty weedy. The water is badly off colored and doesn't smell too good either. I don't know about up north at Grano or Greene but I wouldn't reccommend a trip to the south end of the lake. Makes you wonder if the hard water season ahead will be any good this year. Sure makes you sad to see such a great lake as this in such stress. I believe this is the worst I have seen it in the 34 years I have been fishing it. So guys, save yourself some gas and stay away from the lower end of the lake. Doesn't look like you can fish from shore in too many places either on this end.

Thanks for the advice. The other night the wife had one on the line just off the bridge at Grano and it was a pretty big fatty eye, threw the hook right as it surfaced, she was fishing crankbaits off the rocks. Not much luck at Greene at all. Thanks for the help.

Jig and minnow is most common way, the weight of the jig will depend on how windy it is. Make sure you keep the bait close to the bottom. Casting crankbaits around the rocks can be good to. Make sure you fish last hour 9-10:00. Best time if anygood at all. Let me now how you do if you go again.

Went up to greene last night...IS THAT BEAVER SH*T all over the Pier?? Nasty, anyway, had A LOT of bites but no catches, fish flopping all around the pier and the bridge. Any help on bait that might give us some help is much appreciated. Just getting started fishing so any advice would be great.

Anyone have any luck at the grano crossing lately? My little brother and I went yesterday and fished for about an hour before we had to pack up and leave due to the storm. We didnt catch anything but we had a few bites. Just curious to know if anyone has been catching anything at the crossing.

Thanks,
-Shane

TRY PULLING CRANK BAITS (DARK COLORED LIKE A CRAWFISH, WALLEYE, OR A PERCH #SR7 OR #SR8 OR A TAILDANCER) ALONG THE CHANNEL NEAR THE DAM GOING UP STREAM. STAY WITH IN 13 TO 18 FEET. BEST TIME IS FROM 6PM UNTIL THE SUN SETS BELOW THE HILLS. HOPE THIS WORKS FOR EVERYONE. KEEP ME POSTED.

Boy, as crappy as all of the reports are of this lake I can't believe people still fish it. it seems like if someone catches one or two fish here it was an astonishing outing. This was a way overfished water in the past is what I've heard and the signs seem to be there.

We went fishing today from 1:00 til 3:00 at Darling. Fished off the rocks by the dam and by landing 3. Caught one walleye by the rocks and that was about it. Talked to some people that were fishing between landings 1 and 2 and they were catching a bunch of northerns.
