Lake Audubon (Overview) - Saturday, February 25, 2012 | |
Went out on Audubon today. I'm from Minot and took the boat ramp by Totten Trail. They told us the fishing has been picking up and that there were plenty of people on the ice. We saw three empty wheel houses... Dropped in between them and it seemed to be a big deep pool at the mouth of the nearest North Eastern bay. North West Audubon 3/4 of a mile East of Totten Trail.
Tried at 25 FOW for a while and then moved into the deep stuff after marking a fish during some exploratory drilling... Fished from 4-630pm in about 45 FOW thinking the cold snap would move them deeper. We marked a few fish there, caught one perch (maybe 10 oz.). Fished 2 rods with bare hooks and minnows, the other 2 had small jigs and minnows. Way too cold and windy for tip-ups... This is my first year getting into ice fishing. Been out on Devils twice and followed the resorts houses. Did pretty well. But I would love some advice as to where to fish on Audubon or any lake nearer Minot. Now I know that we all have our secret honey holes, but I'm a newbie here... PLEASE HELP!!! : ) |

Went out from 3:30 pm to 8:30. Caught a few small walleyes a perch and a Smallmouth almost 18"- that was sure fun on the short rod. Fished in 12-18 fow (house at 15') with jigs/minnows. Also had a HUGE northern swim right underneath my jigging hole. So all in all an interesting day but unfortunately not a lot of walleye action.

First time fishing walleye on the ice. So I could not keep them hooked. But they felt real heavy. LOL. Managed to bring home two keepers,

Fished this weekend 18-20ft. minnows and jigs. Managed 12 keepers with a couple 23in. Ice was 18in thick. Time to start moving around with the good ice. Caught the bigger one's during the day.
