took the boat out  and fishedfor about 4 hours many locations in bula  and it was pretty slow only caught a few bullheads. so we decided to head back to the crossing and try there before we packed it up. but at around 7pm we were catchin fish every cast it was tonz of fun everything form walleye to white bass to perch to bullheads the only fish big enough for us to keep were two decent sized walleye one big white bass and our limit on perch and the perch were for the most part all biggies. going out to the crossing again on the 9/17/10 hopefully it will turn out just as great. keep ya posted.

Anyone been out on Bula lately?  Just wondering if the perch bite was still on.  I was out there in June and did really well on perch and a few walleyes.  They were agressive pitch cranks at the weedlines and lindy rig dragging.

Went out on saturday for about an hour.  Just drifted with bottom bouncers and caught 10 fish.  We caught 2 small walley, 4 small perch, 1 small smallmouth, 2 silver bass and 1 bullhead.  We dont have a trolling motor and our boat will only troll down to 2.3 mph so we just drifted.  Wish we would have had a drift sock because in those waves we would actually get up to 2mph drifting.  Maybe someday will get a better fishing boat.

The Dogg Dayz of summer….. calm water and hot temps makes for long days of fishing…water temps above 80 deg.

Pulling cranks is effective the smallies and northerns love them and their fun to catch Firetiger or anything with red on it seems to be the best.

The walleyes have been between 14-18 FOW on cranks…if your pulling spinners or lindy’s you’re better off going in to 20-25 FOW and working your way up. With the calm winds jigging has worked on channel edges too.

I have to report a first this weekend in a day and half of fishing the green monster I did not catch 1 bullhead…shocking I am %100 sure this was a fluke and I expect to get back into the bullhead population Wednesday.

Fished Ashtabula on Saturday from 3PM to 8:30PM and had another good day.  We fished Sundstroms area again and caught mainly perch.  The perch were mostly bigger, right around 10-11" with an occasional little one.  Caught one loner white bass that went a little over 3lbs...biggest I've ever caught of those in Ashtabula.  Did get 2 walleyes in the mix 15" and 17".  We did catch a lot of bullheads this time but for every 2-3 bullheads we got a nice perch.  The perch and the two walleyes were caught right along a weedline in about 12 FOW.  We were using crawlers on a floating jig head for the majority of the fish caught.  The lake was also very green.  Good luck guys and gals!

Fished around Sundstroms (sp) this evening for about 3 hours and got into some really nice perch and a lot of them.  Caught well over 30 and kept 12 over 10 inches for the fry pan.  Very good to see.  They liked crawlers on a floating jig head, white in color.  Also got in on the evening white bass...almost one every cast for 45 minutes before dark...spinners of all colors were what we were using.  Fished 12-16 FOW.  Now the amazing part...only managed about 15 bullheads.  Good luck!

Ok, it’s that time of year again…time for the semi-quarter annual Ole Ashtabula fishing report.

Two words…White Bass…or WaBass (as the locals say) are in plenty and can be a lot of fun to catch …just bring lots of bait as they are even more skilled a thief then the crafty perch.

WaBass are found in just about any depth range however the most common are out in the flats around 15-18 FOW and they’ll hit anything that moves.

Northern’s seem to be a bit more active this year than the last few nothing with great size 2-4 lbs but still fun to catch.

THE PERCH ARE BACK !!! the perch bite is the best it’s been in recent years…it’s still nowhere close to the glory days 10-15 years ago but they are making a comeback. The lack of ice-fishing pressure is my theory but who cares anytime you can bring home 6-10 perch that go 10+ inches and that be a darn good meal.

On to the ‘eyes….the walleye bite has been pretty typical very hit and miss there are a lot of little ones being caught of course now with the lifted size restriction some of those 13inchers make good eaters. With the water temps over 70 pulling cranks should be your best option, channel edges and weed lines seem to be producing the occasional 2-4 pounder. If you are jiggin’ or drifting work the outside of the WaBass schools it seems there are a few eyes feeding in with them.

…and now the part you’ve all been waiting for…How’s the Bullhead bite ??? Frick’in phenomenal !!! Seriously if you’re fishing Ashtabula and aren’t catching Bullhead’s your doing something right!

So get out on the water, have fun and ….  FISH ON !!!

…I almost forgot if you happen to be north of the crossing around old 26…feed Bruce…thanks.

Fished south of the crossing yesterday.  First the bad news, the bullheads have turned on!  Caught maybe 20 medium and big bullheads.  Yuck.  Now the good news, caught 1 decent walleye not 5 minutes on the water.  Thought, this is going to be a good day.  Then the bullheads kicked in.  Caught the occasional perch and no more walleyes.  Throw in 20 or so white bass and you have a busy day, just not the fish we wanted.  Worked lindy's, jigs and cranks.  Lindy's and minnows worked best.  Heard others using crawlers but we didn't have any.
