Had a good day of fishing trolled a spinner and bottom bouncer with a nightcrawler and had a steady bite of walleye (12-16 in.) and caught a 2 lb smallmouth.  The perch were pretty steady as well, I wasn't in the tournament but still had a good day of fishing out on the water with the family.  We took home enough for our first good fish fry of the season!  I did notice the weed line starting to take shape, still about a foot under the surface.  12-18 foot of water is where I was trolling.

At this point in the year fishing is just barely above average on the lake.  BCWF Walleye Tournament the overall weights were up this year over last. A lot of little fish being caught but there were some nice ones taken during the tourney.

Both jigging and spinners have been affective; I haven’t heard much on cranks…we tried a little this weekend with not much luck.

We seemed to pick up the most fish trolling ridges, if you can find where the shelf drops from 10 FOW down to 20 FOW seemed they were hanging out right on the edge.

I was a little disappointed in the bullhead bite…it must have been the front that moved through…still haven’t boated a smallie yet…some nice white bass though.

This weekend looks to be a bit warmer with storms rolling through…we’ll see how the bite goes…

…FISH ON

went to the crossing, and saw a bullhead hater at its finest , his 9 or 10 year old caught a bullhead, and he was really exited, then he grabbed it and yelled " you don't want one of these!" and threw it against a rock, and at 200 yards away, we could hear it crack, if a game warden saw, that, he would have ticketed him, what a #&#@!
as for what we kept , 23 white bass between 12 and 15 inches, and one incredibly fat 18 inch eye. no bullheads, something is wrong with that lake. I have never seen it so crouded, but is 4 bucks for a scoop of minnows good? I want to say no, but I don't remember what the norm is. the lake is not pea soup yet, but in a few weeks it will be.

Moved all over the lake and marked fish in all depths north of the crossing down to Bay Shore.  Caught 2 decent walleyes but the bullhead bite was on.  Water is still quite cold and did not notice any weed growth.  We found the fish we did catch in shallow water on lindy rigs.

Heard that Katie Olson's landing is closed because of ground movement affecting the parking area.  You need to stay at Bay Shore or the north crossing campground.  Need to find really shallow water for the smallies to be hitting now. Catch and release as they still may be protecting their spawning areas.  Bayshore area is always a good place to look for smallies (middle section of the lake).
Good luck.

I plan on fishing Bula some this year and have only been there once. Just wondering where to to start looking for smallmouths in this lake as I don't know my way around. I would be taking off from Katie olson's camp area and am just looking for some directions as to where

Small … would be the best term to describe fishing on the south end.

Perch are hit and miss but the eyes still seem to be schooled with the white bass. However currently south of the crossing the eyes have been small…which is typical early in the season.  Weed growth and water temps seem to be about two weeks behind on the lake.

In general the “bite” starts on the north end and works its way south…should be just in time for the Barnes County Walleye Tournament this weekend. Lots of fishing will be going on and should have some good reports after this weekend.

Water temps are still a little cool for a good smallie bite…however after this week that may change.

Good news the bullhead bite is still on!!! Grab you the worms and your pole cause it is a field day out there…they seem to be larger than average so far the 2nd Annual FBO Bullhead Master Jedi Fishcatcher Tournament should produce some good weights this year….

Ashtabula Fishing report…

Well it’s that time of year again…time to get out relax and catch some fish. The weather was not very cooperative this weekend however did manage to log a couple hours on the water.

Was fishing shallow 10-12 FOW perch were active along with the white bass…then came the walleye. We caught a few small ones only one eye over 14in in the limited time we were out. The pattern seemed to be find the white bass then you’ll find the walleye.

The rain blew us off and the cooler was empty however we did mark some nice pockets of fish in 20-30 FOW or some of the “holes” out on the lake. Next time out if they are still there we will be jigging for them.

I heard a few reports for anglers doing well from shore off the rocks at the crossing.

We did notice a very aggressive Bullhead bite hopefully this remains strong trough the end of July I already have several waypoints marked so look out boys….

Has anyone been fishing Ashtabula yet? I am anxious to get out there, but haven't been by the lake since 5/6 and the water was still pretty high and no empty boat trailers at Eggert's.

As of 5/6, Eggert's was the only landing with their dock out. I would assume that the rest of the docks are out by now, but would be interested to hear if anyone is fishing and if the fish are biting?

If there are a few breaks from the rain this weekend, I would love to give it a shot.

They opened it up at the crossing to get on the ice.  We did not see any track going out on the ice, but should be able to drive around.
