we went out on monday and got small walleye, a few perch, 15 white bass,  we were trolling very slow with nightcrawlers and minnows, so we got more bullheads this trip than any other in the past 5 years! 4. what is up? there was actualy no algae, but a bad silt stain. we should have more wardens here, we saw a few guys swing fish around on the end of their line and hit them against rocks, a few others threw what they didn't keep 20 feet into the air. and the sound of cussing filled the warm summer evening.

Ashtabula update….

GREAT NEWS…the yellow belly bite is ON !!!!!

I got out fishing last Wednesday and Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Fished mostly weedlines and channel points. Walleye’s were slow and small biggest caught was 13.5 inches.  I saw quite a few boats working the channel...not sure how they did. Lots of perch especially in the evening caught a few nice10-12 inchers.. White bass seem to be more active in the evening as well…saw a few schools of them on the top of the water.

Mustarded one nice 14.5 inch smallie pulling cranks in the morning…by far one of the funnest fish to catch. This seems to be the trend early morning smallmouth late evening white bass.

Bullhead bite is at a peak right now…can’t keep them out of the boat . Targeted bullheads for a few hours got a couple of secret presentations set-up. Threw everything at them from slow-death to cranks…whammy they liked them all…

Should be a great weekend…

FISH ON !!!!!

Fished Friday night, almost all of Sat, and sunday. Fished all over from Sibley bridge to the damn and picked up alot all over trolling with cranks and livebait rigs in 10-15 FOW, (6-10 FOW along the weedlines), Jigged with crawlers in 20 FOW and hit every bay we could. Lots of nice white bass, smaller eyes 10-14in with a couple 16in mixed in, some good perch, and the brother in law got 3 of the bigger bullheads I have ever seen. Seemed to us that the better fish were startin to move a little deeper in that 15-18 FT area or bays and weedlines that were close to deeper water. Best cranks were chartrus and greens at first, on sunday it was No.5 Rapala sizes that were minnow and shad colored.
Will be going back on Thurs. night and fishing the weekend and will hopefully target more specific areas. Does anyone ever use minnows on this lake I see alot of leeches and crawlers being used but never hear minnows? Does anyone know where I can even look for smallies on this lake? my wifes uncle said he had a hot spot down by Sandstroms that me and him hit Sunday night and just got some nice white bass (still fun), any directions of advice would be nice.

Fished south of the crossing with my wife from 12-5.  Didn't expect much given the time of day, but had a really great day.  Trolled gold/silver spinners with leeches and crawlers.  Caught lots of perch (some were really nice), and several walleye.  Biggest eye was 20 inches, but all others were 10-16".  Also caught several white bass.  Constant action the whole time we were there.

Trolled the weed lines in 6-10 fow.  Best areas were where the deeper water was close to the weedline (i.e. channel ran close to shore).

Fourth of July forecast….

I am happy to see a plethora of reports on Ashtabula, this year has so far been more productive than the past 2-3. I was not out last weekend but I have talked to a few fisherman who were. The lake seems to be turning on nicely…I can only expect more activity as the temps heat up and weed lines come in…the lake got a lot of rain earlier in the week creating run offs and possibly cooling the water a bit….

South of the crossing seems to be doing well for all species of fish. Walleyes can be found scattered along the channel edges in 10-12 FOW.

Sibley has been hot for white bass lots of schools in the evening in and around the channel north of the bridge.

Smallies should be picking up with the weedlines…trolling or pitching cranks seems to work well.

I will be out for a good portion of the holiday weekend I need to get some good waypoints marked for the upcoming FBO outing, still in search of the bullhead honey hole

Have a safe and happy 4th

Another good saturday out on the lake! Landed a 20in. walleye along with about 3 other 14in. ones.  Caught a fair amount of perch, bit on the small side, white bass were active and landed a bunch of huge bullheads. Just trolled crawlers and stayed between 8 and 16 feet of water, good times!

score. hit the crossing and went to the SW side of it as usaul, and as usaul, we found hungry bass, 39 of them and one 9 inch bullhead, kept all but 2 white bass, unreal. we got most of them by casting our trolling spinner rigs than by trolling with them, jump fishing is the mane of the game. I know my handel is bullheader, but that's just because I love how they taste, not because I'm good at catching them, which I'm not. while trolling along side the west crossing campground, I broght up a branch that smelled septic, ew. we saw alot of people shore fishing, it seems as though mung who usualy fish devils lake are going here insted.

Put in at the crossing around 5:00.  Drifted down to the creek - nothing but bullheads.  Tried trolling the weedlines - nothing.  Decided to cast slip bobbers on the weedline and had a nice mixed bag of perch, walleye (small), pike and, of course, monster bullheads.  About 7:30, the white bass got active and the party was on.  Had a ton of fun; was very impressed with the size of the white bass in this lake.  By sunset the lake was glass, so you could just troll up to the surfacing schools and cast away.  Lost count of how many we caught, but it was pretty much every cast for a while.

Awesome night on the lake.  I've got my bullhead spots marked for the big party next month!

First off happy fathers day to all the dads out there... I was out by the creek with my dad. Fishing was good, caught white bass everywhere... and kept our fair share (17 in the 12-15" range). Did catch several small eyes and small perch, and ended the day with a nice 16" walleye. The last eye was in 4 feet of water next to the weeds, definitely the shallowest fish we caught, but maybe we weren't in shallow enough for the rest of the day... Trolled spinners with crawlers and leaches. The eye was the only keeper eye and we did manage one nice perch. Fun day, and look forward to doing it again soon.

Went out yesterday and caught lots of small Perch and medium sized White Bass trolling the weedlines. Trolled anywhere from 8-10 all the way up to 16 and caught fish at all depths.

Not sure why I am missing the Walleyes though. Didn't even catch a small one. Used leechs until they ran out on one rod and trolled a Flicker Shad on the other rod. Caught fish on both, but most on the leeches.

Ended the day with a hook stuck in my finger that I couldn't get out. Ended up going to ER after catching two more fish. The White Bass started coming both rods at a same time around 8:30 or so. Tons of White Bass rolling on the water right in front of the boat.

Any tips on where to find the Eyes would be appreciated. Going out again today.
