Well..I'm pulling the boat from Fargo to see if I can get it in the water...hope i can..if not i'll just fish off shore.. anyone know any good spots to fish from shore or boat. this will be my brother and my first time on Ashtabula..thanks to anyone who'll share any info.

It's free of ice, but way down, the ramp at Sibley was still out of water on Sunday.

I would appreciate it if anyone with easy or at least easier access to the lake than me, please post when its free of ice so i can bring my new boat and my kids out from Fargo to fish the lake. Thanks Alot. |

We actually fished Karnak Landing area on the north part and the water was very much open all across the lake on Friday and Saturday...didn't catch much so we fished the crossing by the bridge as that was open too...not much there either.

I was out at the lake this weekend and the ice had pulled away from the shore line by our cabin about 10yds or so. I threw a good sized rock out onto the ice and it did not go through but i did not try to walk on it. I think you probably can but your going to need hip boots to get out to the ice i think,. The ice had that greyish blue color to it that it usually gets a few days before it breaks up and goes out. I have a feeling that after this weekend the ice will be out.

Went out to the lake on Saturday afternoon. Was going to try fishing but there is 12 in of water on the lake so did not even attempt. Talked to two guys fishing at the crossing and the were marking fish but no fish in the bucket. I guess its good to know that they were at least marking fish with the water levels where they are. Judging by the water marks on the bridge the water level is about 8-9ft down from summer pool levels. I can walk out about 200yds in front of the cabin before i get to water so it is down quite a ways. Well i think its safe to say the winter fishing is over. Better luck next year hopefully we dont get the snow like we have the past 2 yrs.

Went out by the Dam on Tuesday around noon and fished until dark. Set up on the channel in 25 FOW and caught two nice 12" perch around 2pm. Then nothing until about 5:30 and picked up two more when moved to a hump between the channel and deep part of the lake. Had about 10 tip ups go up but fish would let go after pulling less then a foot of line out. Ice was about 28" thick still with no sign of weekness. Water starting to pool on top of the ice in spots. A few spots had up to 5 inches of standing water. Looks like the lake was down 3-4 feet by the way the ice contoured up the banks. My guess is they drained it down some to fill it back up and stop some of the flooding down stream. Overall I could of had up to a dozen or so nice perch if they would of been more aggressive.

had a awesome perch bite from about 10 to 1030 not a bite anyother time. buddy and me managed 8 in the half hour

I was told that they are going to drain the lake down to almost nothing, the only thing left will be the old river chanel and i was just wondering if anybody else has heard this or if there is any truth to this. If this is true the corps must have really high hopes of it filling up good. Any info is greatly appreciated.

went out monday feb 15. towards south end of the lake. had a blast catching perch from 8am- noon. packed up with 18 good sized perch and went home before the roads got worse then they already were. i picked the right day to use some vacation time.
