big green - produced some small white bass, nice size perch and one 34 inch northern.  No eyeballs.  Someone left something on in the boat, so with battery issues at hand we didnt get much time to fish

Here is what I know….weedlines are still producing mostly after 7pm 8-12 FOW pulling cranks salmos and DT’s work great firetiger is goto color. Mornings on into mid-day the walleyes seem to be hang out on selfs off the channel any narrow ridges of about 12-14 FOW location are important you need a drop-off down to 20-25 FOW close by. There are several of these on the lake East of the creek, north of the crossing Westside, south of Katie Olsen’s west side are a few. I fished all and one day one will hit the next day it will not. IMO this weekend with a NNW wind the east side of the lake late in the day should produce well.
9 to 10 inch perch have been caught with some regularity south of Marten’s landing (westside of lake). There is also a small point just south of Sundstroms (the first little point S. of the fishing pier) has produced a few as well. I’ve picked them up trolling, I have not yet jigged from them but they’re there.
White bass are starting to get more active anything moving and shiny look for the clouds of suspended fish on the graph in front of the dam along the rocks or south side of the rocks along the crossing.
Northern’s and Smallies have been few and far between. The Northern’s we have landed have come off red/white dare devils (boy do they love that color). I haven’t targeted the Smallies too much yet however mid to late August usually is fairly productive.
The bullheads are abundant I have caught bullheads this year pulling spinners, with minnows, worms and leeches. On jigs. Even pulling cranks, YES that’s right pulling cranks one hit on a #4 perch salmo and one on a #5 firetiger DT.

Anyone finding consistent success this summer? I was up north this weekend - lots of boats with limited action. Couple keepers in 4 hours of fishing. Is anyone having success finding perch?

fished ashtabula today. fishing was slow but not dead. pulled spinners by the creek and managed two keeper walleye, a keeper perch and a white bass. put back a few walleye that were too small and several perch that were too small. the walleye were 15" and 20".

Walleyes are biting, just have to find them.  Son and I were north of the crossing on Tuesday night and caught some nice 17-20 inch fish.  Just have to dig through all the bullheads.  Everything we caught was in 4.5 to 5.5 feet deep along the weeds.

Report for this weekend....get out and FISH.

I've talked to about a dozen different anglers who've fished Ole' Ashtray and not many have the same thing to say.
Anyone who's fished Ahtabula in the past we're coming up on mid-summer bite. To those new to the lake this means the fish are everywhere...and nowhere. I've seen and caught fish in the flats, off rock points, and puilled them out of weedlines. Right now my suggestion is to troll cranks or spinners to cover alot of area, once you find them pitch jigs or work that spot. There have been limits caught and most areas where the fish are found are not very big, however those area's keep moving.

Ashtabula has alot of similar stucture throughout the lake and it seems like the 'eyes never stay in one spot to long. So your honey hole last week--will frustrate you this week.

Good Luck and........................................................................FISH ON !!!

Fished north of Sundstroms along the east  shore working weedlines with spinners or cranks. Picked up a fair number of walleye, but only one keeper for the two of us. Had a lot of fun watching my parnter get excited when the big yellow bellies hit his crank bait. Had not seen that happen before.

The walleyes we caught where in the 13" range and looked very healthy! Was surprised on some of the points not to pick up any small mouth like we tend to do. Got off the lake as it was clear the drizzle was going to turn over to rain. All in all  a great day to be on the boat!

BigBrad no matter what presentation you use, you will find Gold / Black, Blue / White,  Black / Orange, Silver / Black or Firetiger / Hammered Gold to be key colors on that system.

Be it cranks, jigs,or bouncers and spinners, these colors will do well.

Crawlers, Leeches, or Gulp crawlers or minnows on spinners will do well as will Salmo Hornets while trolling or casting weedlines and rocks.

Sorry, this isn't a report, but more looking for advice.  I've never fished Ashtabula before and am looking for general info.  Not looking for any honey holes.......just wondering what suggestions people would give on what has been succesful for catching walleyes?  Jigging?  Spinners?  Minnows?  Worms?  Leaches?  Any basic advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

Summer is starting to finally get here...with summer comes the weedlines with the weedlines comes the walleyes...the crossing has been most productive both north and south...still no reports from Sibley or the Sundstroms-Mel area seems like most the fish are in the middle right now.

Well this weekend was less then ideal fishing weather...Eyes were very slow there were a few caught south of the crossing on the eastside flats across from the creek. I didn't have any luck there but I did see a few boats bring in some fish most looked fairly small.
I spoke with two boats who fished North of the crossing they had picked up a few as well biggest was 16 inches seems like the most activity right know is in the flats most guys are jigg'in once they find them minnows and plastics seem to be working good...overall fishing's been slow.
