Lab x English Cocker Cross any thoughts?

Captain Ahab's 9 month old english cocker had some mad skills a few months back with a yellow lab.  So I am a proud owner of a Labercocker.  Any one ever see one, or had one as a hunting dog?  The english cocker has champion breeding, and for it's age looks to be a solid dog, the lab was just a local girl, nothing special.

I am hoping it will be a smaller lab, points and flushes on demand, thick hair for outside life, but not long enough to be a mess in the brush.  The english cocker should help take a little hyperness out of the lab as well.  Time will tell, I just thought it was a cool combo.  I will post pic.

I will probably get run off the site, but I am a big believer in cross-bred dogs.  Some of the best dogs I have seen and hunted behind didn't have a paper behind their name.

IMHO it is all about experience.  I will take a cross bred dog who sees 50-60 days of field time over some $2000 registered dog that gets out 3 weekends in the fall.

for the record, I have a springer/brittany cross.  and althought I am biased, I don't think I will shoot more birds behind another dog that I own than what I have done behind her.

Take a kid hunting instead of hunting for your kid.

First I am a Dad, then a husband, then a hunter.  Sometimes I get the husband and hunter mixed up, but luckily my wife remembers what order they should be in. :-)

I have seen some very nice lab springer. Not being rude but i am trying to figure out how a cocker is going to take hyper out of a lab. Most of the cockers i have seen hunt were ery hyper?

Prolly end up like most any other dog.  If you train it to listen to you well and are perceptive enough to read the dog's body language while it hunts, it'll be a GREAT dog.

Train it half-assed such that it only listens to you around the house when it wants to and ignores you the rest of the time and it'll be awful.  It'll end up being the runninest, bird chewer-uppper you've ever hunted behind, give or take.

That little slut of an English Cocker!!  No morals at all!!

Having had several labs and English Cockers over the past 40+ years, I'd predict that your dog whould end up being a great meat/hinting dog and super member of the family!

I couldn't get the picture off my phone, but that is what my dog will look like when fully grown.  I got the yellow, and a friend picked up the black one.  Looking forward to working with the little guy and being a first time bird dog guy, will be looking for advice as I go.

Riverview,
In my experience, which honestly if limited, labs seem to jump all over people and get pretty excited around people.  I guess the cockers I have been around are more reserved when people come around and don't try to get as much attention.  Not saying I am right, it was just my thought on the two breeds.

Hors,
Good point, that's what captian said as well.  If you have a good dog you have friends to hunt with, if not no one wants to go with the guy yelling at his dog all day.  I have some birds close to the house I just bought, so it will give me a chance to work with him in the fall.

Right now, he will be rented out on the weekends to some of my single friends because chicks will fall in love with this puppy.

I've never heard of "socializing" a pup in such a way.  You are to be commended for your "out of the box" thinking.  (grin)

Here's a pic of the little devil.   He says:  "I want to chew up your stuff"  ha ha.  Your lucky my dog was an early bloomer...first puppy by the time he was 1 yr/old.

I once had a lab/springer cross - - he was hard-headed but a great dog.  Super good nose and probably smarter than any purebred I've owned.
