Was just reading through an article on the new fishing ready kayaks that are out.  I have to say some mfgs are really sticking it to us.  Thousands of dollars now instead of hundreds will get you the latest gadgets attached to a kayak so you can fish from it properly.  First of all I didn't know there was a proper way.  Now there is!  Its ridiculous to think all these years My family has done this all wrong.  For starters we didnt have electronics, how did we ever find fish?  We also didn't have peddals so we could move about hands free, funny I thought we used paddles with kayaks.  Nope we dont have a battery powered live well / bait tank either, isn't that what the water we were sitting on was for? Our anchors were on a 3/8 rope tied to the cleat, how wrong could we be!  They are supposed to be attached to a front or rear mounted down rigger with a remote hand crank.  I guess the only thing our fishing yaks have is directional rod holders but they certainly aren't mounted on a proper trolling array.  Oh the shame of it all!  I guess it's hard to believe but I can still throw 4 yaks in the bed of my truck, a couple of poles apiece, my little clear plastic tackle boxes, and still go "kayak fishing"  without all this other stuff!  My yak does have one hi tech strip of dog lounging carpet on the back so Chili can lay behind me without slipping off every 2 seconds.  I may have to give in though and attach the stearn mounted out rigger for this year.  She is a bit bigger than my last boat dog so a doggie platform may just be the ticket for a lot less aggrivation.  Sure hope the new batch of kayak fishermen can afford to do thier sport properly, If not I'm afraid you will have to join ranks with the rest of us red necks and use a little old school ingenuity instead of your credit cards.  Paddle On!
