As someone not from here, I'm curious how this man got a long running t.v. show. Don't misunderstand, I don't hate on anyone who can make a buck doing what they want and I'm a free market guy so if people didn't watch it'd fail. However, this guy really doesn't seem like he knows what he's doing no matter the fishing situation.

Am I missing something?

You forgot to mention he is one of the most annoying TV guys around. Way to exuberant imho.

I am not 1 who comments on here, however, I have a 6 year old daughter who gets out of bed before I do to tell me that she wants to watch john gillespie catch fish. We all need our children to carry on the sport so it is very important for her to learn respect, sportsmanship for the sport we all love. just saying

I guess if he gets kids involved then that is not a bad thing. The guy just seems to try too hard or maybe that is the way he is?

He's probably playing dumb to get his guides involved and talking.   But yeah, he freaks out at everything and repeats everything at least 3 times.  PETE, PETE, PETE, GET THE FRABILL, GET THE FRABILL, GET THE FRABILL!

He does have constant action though and I like that the shows are really recent.

I like the fact that he is fishing the upper midwest for walleye, musky, and smallies. Nice change from all the southern bass shows. I watch them too its just nice to have a little variety.

The late Tony Dean always had action. Back in the jumbo perch glory days on DL in early 90's, I was ice fishing there in Creel Bay and he was filming a show. He sat there talking fishing while his crew rigged up fish on a hook, dropped in the hole and Tony acted to set the hook and reel it in. The fish came from a 5 gallon pail. I assume they came from some part of the lake, just not that same spot.

Are you serious??  I have always heard they do that kind of stuff but never believed it.

ole Tony and I had it out about why the geese were staying up in ND on the Missouri and not moving down to SD "like they always have". My rationale was open water and thousands of acres of corn fields close to the river. His argument was pretty much word for word from Algore and global warming.

I have had the opportunity, as most would call it, to interview him. His shows are new every week and what he puts on his shows are the tactics that really are catching fish....where we live.....during that week. When his shows air on saturdays, those scenes where shot the previous monday-weds.  So everything is current. Also, he does fish with premier guides....so they are some familiar names. I'm not going to try and take a stance because i feel i can agree with much of other people think of him and his show...both the positives and the negatives. Also, he only had two people he ever pays-himself and his cameraman. He went to marquette for advertising and mass communications, so that probably doesn't hurt him in the making it work department.

I --put him up on the wall with the greatist - Jimmy, Roland ---- if you live in WI you have to be thrilled.  PBR and Johnsonvilles  --- does it get any better than that?

Seriously - I like his show the excitement etc.

Stay thirsty my friends

I think that guy drinks about five bottles of 5 hour energy and 4 redbulls when he wakes up in the morning to go fishing. Makes my kids look calm after having a peice of cake. He is fun to watch sometimes
