Jiffy ice auger issue

The power head on my old 3 hp jiffy seems to be loose where it attaches to the gear case. I have a picture with the area circled where the motor is loose. The power head will rotate slightly but will not lift off the gear case. Is this normal or do I need to fix it?

Seems to me my ancient old one has been like that for years.   It always is sort of shakey there, and also further down where the auger itself starts..   Never gave me trouble, though.

My old model 30 seems solid.  Not sure what to tell you there, i'd probably read some forums online about the Mod. 30.

Take your bit off and pull off the bottom gearcase cover.  The bolts that hold the powerhead on are tapped from the bottom up.  Often times the bolt will fall out into the clutch and stick the clutch into direct drive(i.e. the bit always turns).  That will fix Mr. Wobbles.

Also, make sure you lock tight the bolts before you tighten them or you will be doing the same thing again.

Thanks for the advice,

Talked to my buddy's dad and he said that if I do not tighten those bolts up then one of those metal pieces could potentially crack and then I guess you are SOL on that auger

lesson of this story, make sure those bolts are tight!
