Spoke to a local warden about Mallard Marsh shortly after first ice. He didn't think there were any fish left in there. Winter kill and summer kill supposedly.

I think if they plowed roads out there to make it easy access for everyone it might make it a better tourism attraction to the city because people would know they can get around good out there so more people would come and fish. I would fish every weekend if I had a sled but I don't and you would get stuck to easy with a pickup or four wheeler so I really havn't put that much effort into going. I fished it once before Christmas and then it took me an hour to go a half mile on the ice because I got stuck so much. I was thinking about trying it this weekend now that the snow banks are hard so I could take the four wheeler and ride over the top of them but I don't know what I have heard from people it is really slow but it always is this time of year. I think the ice is going to be to crapy to do any late ice fishing but only time will tell.

fish slayer,
Why should NDGF plow roads on Jamestown Res? Why should they have to plow on any lake access? If they plow on a lake there are going to be people like you that complain because they did not get roads on the lake that they fish plowed. If they plow one lake they have to do it for all. A fishing license is a privilege. Which means it can be taken away at any time; it is NOT a Right under NDCC. If you do not like the conditions outside (snow depth, wind, and/or cold) then stay inside, if you are a die hard for ice fishing like me then there is no amount of snow, wind, and/or cold that will keep me off of the ice. |

Fish Slayer. I like your idea of the G&F plowing road. Ya right are you serious. That is just about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. It cost a crazy amount of money to plow so who going the pay for that. Us the sportsmen and tax payers. That would go over like a lead ballon. Then if a piece of government equipment goes through then you were hear how stupid they were for being there.
We need years like this to keep people that aren't willing to work for fish to stay home and leave it to those of us that work hard for what we get. I myself am enjoying my time at home this winter... I might fire the sled up and get out again next weekend. To much going on this winter for me. |

Pipestem Lake - Wednesday, January 28, 2009 | |
Only 3 access points for a vehicle on the Pipe. Parkhurst which I'm sure you saw, is terrible. There were a couple houses straight out from the boat ramp but that was it. Other 2 are South side. 1 past rifle range and that one gets bad in a light winter, no way you'd get on there. The other on the far west end, minimum maint. road. Last I was down there it was completely blown in. Only if someone plowed it since would it be usable and it's a long way from the main road to water, well over a mile. Even before the last couple storms, from Parkhurst west was a ghost-town. Huge drifts and nobody down that way.
The Pipe is hibernating for the winter:) |
