Dad told me that down our way he is seeing good sized flocks moving through the area.  Whatever, "good sized flock" means.

Birds are definitely out there. Just takes a few miles and is worth it. After last week with sloughs freezing up a bit it pushed nice amounts of birds down then the next few days were nice and has opened most up again and kept a bunch around. So they are out there thats for sure.

bdog, now if you would have asked what kind of gun to use to shoot at waterfowl you would have every genius on this forum reply.  We are going to the central part of the state and the report from my Dad said things are starting to thin out.  Good luck.

Quite honestly this is the earliest I have seen snow geese sneak down toward the Washburn area in a long time.  There have been pockets of geese from the Canadian border (bigger flocks up there) all the way to Washburn as far as who knows over east to as far west as Keene.  The last five years there hardly has been a bird over west and really, the migration just kicks into semi-swing at the start of Goosefest (this weekend).

Good luck to all shootin' in the 'fest.  Won't be there...will be paving.  Yippy.

Now as far as ducks and greaters to be honest there aren't a ton down in the Sakakawea country yet.  Some decent sized flocks but the big push hasn't happened quite yet.  We'll see what happens with chilly temps coming in next week.

I am south and west of Kenmare and I have only seen 3 flocks, snows and blues, very few local honkers the birds are around but they are moving farther and farther west every year 30 yrs ago we had to hunt  Westhope then Mohall Then Knemare . There are a lot more at the Lostwood and west. They are about 15-20 miles west of Kenmare.  By no means are they migrating in full force yet. You only hear an occiational flock in about 10 days it will get noisey, If the weather changes fast.

That's what is goofy.  The big push isn't underway but yet there are pockets of birds sitting down in Coleharbor, Makoti and some over on Shell Creek at Van Hook.  I didn't think we had any spurts of nasty weather up north to jump start some premature movement.  Was up north in your country two days ago.  Some snows around and some ducks.  Was definitely surprised to not see all that many honkers yet.  But I only did a one day quick scout trip for the girls.  I gave them some hints on where to go (gut feeling hints).  Hopefully they can get on the board in Goosefest.  I will be working.  Boo.

Try this link.  It is kinda cool.  It tracks the migration of mallards through GPS recievers installed in the bird.  Missouri DNR website.  I think it might be a grad project.
