The instructions say to attach the black wire to a ground wire. Where do I connect the ground wire? Can you just attach it to the boat?

No. never ground to the boat surface.  Ground to any black wire leading to the battery or to the battery itself.

Not sure what your boat set up is, but you should have a grounding block located under your console or at a locaton where your fuses and / or switches are located.  It is a metal block, usually aluminum, with several set screws in it where you can attach your ground wires.

Its an older lund, I found the block but it doesnt have any fuses, just screws.

Can I wire my depth finder to my trolling motor battery?

I lost the manual for the finder so I was wondering what you guys are running for fuses for Lowrance depth finders (mine is a 520c)?

I'd think you'd be a lot better off wiring the depth finder to the starting battery so it's always fully charged. In an old boat I had once I bought an accessory block kind of thing that had wires to hook to the battery then the block was screwed under the dash and had places to hook up accessories, worked pretty good.

Just a guess, but probably a 3 - 5 amp fuse?

There won't be fuses for the grounding block. There should be a least one ground wire, usually black, runing from the block to the neg terminal on your battery. This wire grounds to block.....then you can attach your ground wires to the block.  Your block should have been  grounded at the factory....just attach your ground wires to the screws.

Agree with Bowhuntin, wire your depth finder to your staring battery.

You should be able to download the manual online at Lowrance's website to find your fuse size.

If using the ground terminal block that will be grounded only to your starting battery.  So you will have to pull your + from the same source to have a full looped circut.  Most all Lowrance use 3amp fuses.  You should be able to grad a + source under the dash also (like the ignition or bilge ect.)  Good Luck!
