Which rifle would you buy out of these 3 weapons only and why.
1. cheytac .408
2. Barrett .50 cal
3. Lapua .338

I have shot  a russian 50 cal, nobody I hang out with can afford a Barrett, and the Lapua 338 (both bolt action).
IMHO the Lapua .338 was a much nicer gun. Less recoil and according to which expert opinion you read about better ballistics also.
I threw the cheytac .408 in the loop because I think the computer you get when you buy the gun would be cool but I don't want to attend 2 days of training just to learn how to run it.

Just fininshed reading AMERICAN SNIPER and his longest confirmed kill was 2,100 yards with .338.

If money were no option then:
#1) .408 Cheytac
#2) .338 Lapua in a Cheytac platform
#3) .50 Barrett

In that order. but .408 if only one.

Shooting anything with a .50 cal is fun, but I agree a coyote would be really really fun.
I dig the cheytec platform but the .338 I shot was custom made buy a guy in north dakota and I was really nice.

I'd go some itteration of 7 magnum twisted hard enough for 162 A-max, 168/180VLD and have the 338L and 50BMG crowd pouting.

I don't know much about the spec differences, but I have pulled the trigger on a friends barrett .50 cal.  A bit intimidating when you see the size of that shell - if I remember correctly pushing 700 grains?  Something everyone should get to do once!

I'd have to go with the Barrett.  I've shot about 3000 rounds through that weapon at distances of 250 to 2000 yards.  My favorite round was the HEI or high explosive incendiary rounds.  When they hit a steel target they go "splat" with orange flame and shrapnel.  Tracer rounds were fun too.  I just love how she roars and bucks.  Though the ammo costs for my appetite would just about break the bank.....

The Ma Deuce and the M82A1 are not the same weapon, not even close actually other than they are both 50s.

I assume you're talking about the M2.

Take your pick.  I am anticipating my 30" bbl'd 7WSM to run 162's +/- 3300fps.  A long barreled 7Rem would do the same.  7 STW or RUM with enough bbl length would only be more of a good thing.

I figured I could compare my 30" bbl'd WSM since the 338L, 408, and 50 are all 15-20#+ rigs.

Q: You know how far a bullet out of a .50 will tumble after hitting frozen prairie?

A:  A long way.  I cringe when I hear talk about shooting at yotes with them.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

My kid shot one -- he liked the recoil (barely nothing).     Dust in eyes if you stand close to the thing.

Stay thirsty my friends

Nope!  I was an EOD Tech for 12 years and we shot about 1500 rounds per year through the 2 M82A1's we had for the shop.  I was there when the Barret first came out.  Crap I'm getting old.  We shot at Tyndall AFB quite a bit and rocked Camp Grafton every year.  I have lots trigger time that big girl and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

In my wildest dreams I never thought Horsager had a sweet spot for the .284.  I'm tearing up just a bit.

Now I'm done.

I've a sweet spot for that which can remain supersonic @ 2K sans 100+gn of powder in a platform I can carry without tearing up when the trigger breaks or needing a loudener to tame the recoil.
