Looks like they work great on hard pack snow, lets see them in action on devils lake now.  It would be interesting to see if it would stay on top of the snow or just just push.

Based on estimation the skis provide 504 square inches of surface area.  Depending on your weight of the house you'll drastically cut down the PSI.  That's what is all about regardless if snow is fluffy or not.  I've been researching skis for a long time and I bet they will open eyes.  In fact, this particular set has had personal reviews fall upon my ears.  People were VERY happy with them.  The issue?  What you going to use to pull it?  If a pickup cant get around there's no way you can pull an ice house with magical floats on it.  It's just one of those things.  If you have a big house a person just has to admit defeat when snow get's too deep.  But, a pickup chained up with an ice house with skis might extend fishing time and cut down on defeat time!

bluegills and I have been tossing around building our own set the last few years.  Skis just help so much with cutting down roughness compared to bare tire pulling.

Some possible additions?  I can't get over the fact I'd like them longer.  I also would like to have some sort of swoop on the back.  I mean, as you can see, backing up with these once stuck isn't going to work so well.

Some ideas to toss around but we might start simple and worry about re-fab when needed.

Tim,

just a suggestion for your skis, instead of making the back taller so you can't back out of them, how about a short chunk of chain that attaches to the frame of the fish house to secure the skis from sliding out when backing? Then when you want to back off of the skis, unhook the short chunk of chain.

Yes, that is a compromise.  A fabricated ratchet style strap is something we've talked about.  The issue of course, is the digging and plowing the ski would do when backing up.  Without a swoop, you are basically plowing snow and with a extension of the ski digging back into the snow it seems like it could bring problems.

But, in the name of compromise.  Perhaps the easiest thing to do is settle for some sort of securement of the tire.  That way, you at least have some ability to back up and get a new run going.  Is one of those try and find out things!

well That rzr is nice in the snow and i have never saw the need to have to back up other than to take the skis off if i am not in the right spot i just flip in around again and make sure i have it on the right spot that time but ya its not just the hard packed it goes over if you have fresh fluffy snow it will sink in a little but i have never noticed build-up in front of the skis i have not gotten it stuck yet and i am out on Devils Lake the majority of the time so ya there is a fair amount of snow out there when i took that first video that was right after the storm on Christmas pretty much and theres far more snow now so u think it pulls far nicer in this fresh snow at least you can go a lot faster because you don't have to slow up for those big banks and ya its really  handy. That is a 17' Rap Shack i out the touge on a scale once and it was well over 300lbs its way to much that is my only complaint about that house if takes a good size machine to pull it but with that rzr with tracks when this snow is like it is now you go from full throttle the majority of the time to only half throttle with the skis on so that is a lot less stress on the machine and there is no shoveling. That HDS was nice until it quiet working. thos HDS's  must have some bad bug yet i know off a few people who have had trouble with them. and no its not because it froze i have heard that time after time this rzr sits in a heated garage and when the heat was off the HDS unit was in the house.

A "swoop" could be dubed as TIm's term.

I have a pair of these skis that I got in Fargo last year.  I beat them up pretty bad the first time out and had to re weld them and get them back into useable condition.  They are alot better with some plastic bolted onto them.  They make two sizes of them, one for single axle and one for tandem.  Bottom line-they work very well and partnered with a side by side atv with tracks is just the ticket.
