Now that I have a bigger Ice house, I'm thinking about a trip this winter to LOW. I've never fished there before.
Can any of you give me some suggestions as to what area to go and what time of the winter is usually best.
I don't need a place to stay, I'll be spending the whole time in the house.

In the winter I always stay in the baudette/north west angle area, great fishing and lots of reefs to fish late in the winter. Early on I would stay to the flat bottom. Ice should be a foot thick now or very shortly, and there is always fish to catch no matter what time of the year you go up there. You will see where people are catching fish because by january there will be thousands of ice houses up there with nice mantained roads. Good luck!

First and last ice are best, can't beat a gold jig tipped with a minnow. I fish Long Point but anywhere from Springsteel to Baudette will get you fish.

Your gonna pay a little more, but buy the lures your first time up from the local shops. Nice thing about LOTW is everybody helps everybody(in my experience) everyone shares exactly how deep where and what the fish are biting on.BRING A FLASHER, do not waste your money going up there without one, you will catch far more fish up there than without. The fish like to be suspended up there, and if it was anything like last year, the big ones we caught were almost always 6 or more feet off the bottom. Baudette/ 4mile bay are my go to places but I like to have fun after fishing as well. Roads are well maintained once solid ice is up and you will have to pay access fees pretty much wherever you go. (worth every penny) Good luck and fish with lures that glow

definately call the resorts to kinda get an idea before you go up but as of right now they are not letting anybody on the lake they had the ice crack but it pushed back together they say one more week of cold temps and the resorts will be letting people go.  5-7 inches is what they got right now for ice

Pink, gold, and pink with gold seem to be the LOW staples.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

you can pretty much go anywhere you want. If you have a lake master chip dont be afraid to go it alone and get away from the crowds. Always have a dead stick with either gold or a pink or red glow jig on and then your jiggibg stick for have a rattlyn flyer or stop sing or dam it the northland one slipped my brain haha. I prefer to go out of Arnesens as do a million others. There is a road just before you get to arnesens that will take u out to quite a few awesome reefs. The ice isn't good up there yet. The wind has been making a mess so far. 4 mile bay is allowing walk out and that is all. Call ahead to some of the places and check before you go. Any other info you can pm me and I have an abundance of resources up there to get the info you need

I'm going up the 3rd weeken in January.  Never been to LOW before and am pretty jacked.  We are staying in sleeper house.  To be honest I couldn't tell you anything more than that.  A buddy set the trip up.  I already started buying the reccomended lures.
