Ice Fishing ATV

I finally picked up an ATV for ice fishing.  I have a number of ideas of how to rig it.  I'd like to mount the auger on the front, put some baskets on the back, have some rod holders for fishing and transport, mount my HDS on, and put a rack on the back for the ice house (like Genz).

How are your setups?  What do you like or don't like?  What would you not do?  Please post pics as well.

Thanks,
Auggie

It doesn't have a winch.  What winch should I put on?
I also want to put on a windshield that easily comes on and off for trailering.  Has anyone used a quick-release type windshield?

I bought a standard quick release windshield from arctic cat. Not only does it keep your face warmer it also keeps your hands quite a bit warmer. My windshield also comes with an area to mount a RAM mount GPS. Although a windshield is not the most attractive attachment it is a must.

I put an Augereasy - like a giant drill press that holds your ice auger - on mine.  I have a terrible back and can't lift an auger any more and it rides there with no effort on my part.   The only sort-of-downside is that you have to move your ATV to where you want the holes drilled, which is lightning fast ;anyway, but early in the season with thin ice it could be problematic.   However, you can park your ATV on shore or solid ice and pop the auger off in no time and drill holes the regular way.
I have mine on an Arctic Cat Prowler, but it fits any 2 inch Class 1  hitch and can be used on any vehicle, ATV, pickup, Rolls Royce, Smart Car, etc.

If you dig post holes it works really well, too.  Ranchers love em in rough terrain with portable post hole augers.  Rather ingenious - can use them on any non flat surface.

Dont put anything behind, or lower, than the rear rack that you don't want covered in snow.

Hand and THUMB warmers are a must especially the thumb warmer
Windshelds are a must as well
lights on the rear if your machine isn't already equipped with them, really helps when tearing down or setting up in the dark.

Chains at least - better still, Tracks if you can afford them.

Winch - Jury's out for me on this.  Warn has the big name and I'd alwqaya had Warn winches on pickups for years, but had 2 brand new armatures burn out within a minute or two of putting them on.  No warranty either, because I bought the ATV used, though the winch had never been used before I bought it!   Stickers were all still on it, etc.   Warn finally did send me a third motor, seeing as how I'd paid for the second one a week before, but even that was likie pulling teeth! So farI think  the third one is still working, though I only tested it once after I put the new motor on.  Fingers crossed......

I think  winches  are all made in China anyway.   Maybe a cheap aftermarket one from TSC or Northern would do as well as the 3 - 4 hundred dollar ones.  If it craps out, chuck it and get another one. Replacing the motor on the Warn was over 200+ if I recall right.
