The first day at the AIM tournament on Lake Oahe was a succesful one for the anglers!!  Thought that FBO'ers would like to see...remember that they don't weigh the fish, the weights are based on measurements, which I think that this year is an underestimate.  Sounds like a mixture of trollers for suspended fish over trees and a lot of live baiting.

Just remember thats 7 fish culling and a generous length to wieght conversion. I have never seen a 27'' fish whiegh over 8#. Not nockin them every ones on the same plane. Just tuff to compair with reguler whieght tourneys on the same lake.

I have a 28 inch fish that went close to 9 pounds from Oahe last year. Its possible and likely! These are fat fish.

Now we don't have the kind of fish like a trophy lake in Canada, but it is entirely possible to get a 27 inch fish that weighs over 8lbs and even some up to 9lb.  One day at Tobin Lake in Saskatchewan about 8 years ago I caught 5 fish all between 8 and 9 lbs and I couldn't keep a single one of them.  At the time they had a slot of 27 3/4 inches aprox since the slot was actually in cm.  These were footballs and we don't have many compareable fish here, but the fish this year are as fat as ever and healthy.  So while only a small percentage of fish 27 inches will make 8 lbs, especially this time of the year without the eggs, some will make that weight.  Either way spotting these guys even .5lb per fish with 7 they still have some nice stringers.

Do they fish for 8 hours and then just take their 7 biggest for weight?

Geosteerer,That would be correct. Seven best during tournament hours. Not  sure how many hours they get to fish.

One guy today misslabeld a pic, I think he wrote down 23" and the pic said 22".   He still had a 30 lb basket with 6 fish.  (biggest of the day -1 fish!)  Would have put him in 2nd place.  Some said they  were sorting through 30-60 fish, and didn't have to run very far from the launch.

I like the idea of the photo and release.  I don't really care too much for the format of best 7 over the whole day.  I would like it more if you were only allowed to photo 10 fish.  IMO, the decision making of a limit plays a big part of the tourneys and the skill of the fisherman.

Rowdie; it was raining out and on the scorecard the 22" the angler wrote down on the scorecard appeared to look like 23" because of the wet scorecard, from what I heard.   Therefore he lost the weight of that fish which cost him a 2nd place $13,000 +/- finish.   Supposedly in the rules meeting they state to make writing legible.  So.................rules are rules   OUCH!!
