Wind anyone????  Holy Rollers this stinks!!  I shoot a 308 with 150 grain pills and I think I'd have to lead a standing deer about a foot and a half at 300 yards.  LOL!!  Good Luck Everyone!!

if your hunting WT --- they are going to be like pheasants --- you will need to step on em to get em rolling today.   Your senses are going to be weak unless if your a roady --- as you wont be able to hear rustling etc.   Shoot to kill.

Stay thirsty my friends

Get in close to a bedding area and sit tonite. Deer likely wont move till late anyways. Keeping your rifle steady out in the open in that kind of wind is tough.

Depending on the caliber and distance, it can affect it alot.   I think you correct on your guess at 300 yards. We sighted in yesterday at 200 yards with a 10 - 15 mph cross wind and we were 5 inches left shooting a 25-06  120 grain. So 30 MPH you can more than double it.  It pays to practice in all conditions, including wind.  Try it, it's actually fun to see how the elements affect trajectory.

Shoot straight, stay straight and be safe everyone.

Deer numbers at an all time low I think not.

Game and fish just posted their mule deer survey - and yes, the numbers are at an all-time low. And, I've bow hunted for more than 30 years and this is the fewest deer I have EVER seen.

In western ND the wind is always 40 mph...

Found a few does after work yesterday about 8 miles south of Dickinson. Hoping to fill a tag at 11:01 am today, then go for a limit of birds. Most crops are off, and the birds are bunched in tree rows and any remaining cover. Then drink some brews and have a fish fry.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, how come they're made out of meat?

I would suggest you fill your tag at 12:01.

I like your plan

Thought the question was interesting, so I looked it up...

A .308 with 150's does about 2840 fps. If sighted at 1.8 inches high at 100 ( right on at 200), puts it 8 inches low at 300.

Wind drift at 300 yds.  10mph is 8.1 inches, 20 mph is 16.2 inches, 30 mph is 24.3 inches, and a 40 mph wind pushes it 32.4 inches.

There you go....

Oh Goody!  That means I would have hit'em squarely in the "eggmaker".  I'm just not going to shoot that far in this wind.  It's not worth wounding a deer.  Thanks for the info.  Good stuff all around.

Most bullet manufactors have ballistic charts or programs on thier websites.  Remington has "Remington Shoot" a free download specific to remington loads.  I shoot the 150 core-lok in a .270, you will be surprised at the amount of drift.

I shot a buck in Nebraska last season downhill at just over 200 yards in a crazy cross wind.  He was bedded down in the sage and I aimed between the last rib and the front of the hide quarter and hit him in the shoulder.

Most people forget about bullet drift or probably don't think that the wind will effect a bullet traveling at the speeds they do!

Good Luck all

This here is a pretty sweet program:

I got similar numbers to nd_bowhunter's but you can really fine tune in the conditions.  I didn't know what bullet you are shooting.
