From a blind (or against a tree, cedars, etc)  or spot and stalk?  Use decoys?  If so, how many and what setup?

Also check out FS Dave's article for a great turkey hunting story.

I like to sit and call. I usually have at least one roost site to call near and then a milk run of other spots depending on the weather. The terrain I hunt makes moving close to the birds easy some times, and I have learned that at times I set up to close. Most of my birds have been shot at under 20 paces with my 28 ga. and a load of copper sixes. working toms to the call is the bomb!

I let the birds tell me what to do. I hunt a lot of public ground that gets a lot of pressure snd I've found that I have to keep the calling minimal if they have been worked a lot. I use my ground blind a lot more than I used too. On public ground you have to be aware of the other hunters as well as the birds and adjust your actions accordingly. In other words I try to be flexible and werwy werwy carefull not to let that wascally wabbit scare the turkeys!

I absolutely love to call a big tom into dekes from the blind.  This is the first year I bought a artificial blind.  I've always used homemade jobs out of cedar trees, or just sitting against a wide tree has worked well too.  If I'm getting no responses I'll spot and stalk.  I like to do this too and enjoy it, but I've learned to use a little patience as well.  Too many times I've not heard anything and got out of the blind just to see that big gobbler running in the opposite direction.  So, I spot and stalk but my favorite way is to sit in a blind.  Have a jake facing toward me at 8-10 yards and a hen away from me at 10-15 yards.  Has worked well for me.
