Just wanted to know everyones thoughts on what the most accurate out of the box rifle is, i'm thinking of getting a .270 but am undecided. I already have a 30-06 and 30-30 for deer but the .30-06 is a remington 7400 and isn't very accurate at 200 yards. The rifles i've been looking at are the marlin xl7, savage 111, tikka, and remington 700 sps. I really like the fact that the marlin and savage have easily adjustable triggers but haven't really heard anything about the xl7 except that its cheap. So let me know what you think is the best rifle and caliber for some prairie antelope and deer hunting.

I have really started to become a fan of the Howa.  They shoot great and have the new Hogue stock that is almost a rubberized feel that doesn't sweat in the heat and it doesn't get hard in the cold.  I have three Howa rifles in .243, 7mm-08, and 7mm mag and they all shoot as good as my rugers and remingtons.  I don't think you can wrong with getting one and they are less money.

Older Sako man here.  (way before Tikka)   A little spendy, but I love the action.  Have fun narrowing it down.

The model 99 sitting chief is holding is the only good rifle savage ever built!!

I think the Kimber, the CZ,and the new winchester model 70 classic, are the better new guns,      Per war Mauser Commerical rifles are still the best EVER built.

kdm very good choice.

I just bought a Tikka T-3 lite in 300wsm left hand for my family.  Both kids and the wife are lefties.  I was amazed at the out of the box accuracy with factory ammo.  3/4 inch at 75 yards,  the trigger is crisp.  A little heavy on the recoil for my 9 year old but he was able to shoot touching holes and fired it 12 times.  I don't really feel much for recoil but the only gun that I really feel is my Weatherby mark V .340 mag.   On that list I'd choose the Tikka.

I was just wondering why you say your 30-06 isnt very accurate at 200 yards. we sight our model 750 s in at one hundred yards about an inch or two high and then they are right on at two shot a few deer that far and have never had a problem dropping them on the spot with a well placed shot.

U let a 9 year old shoot a 300wsm T3? Thats darn near child abuse. Bet that kids got a hell of a flinch developed already...

I agree Tikka is top of the list, followed by salvage, if accuracy is your main consideration.

From my experience tikka triggers are better than the other brands you mention also, they are easily adjustable down to 2-3lbs and usually break clean with little creep.

Lycan... I stared shooting 30 cals when I was six.
A wound out Model 700 BDL chambered in 300 WIn Mag.
Never really developed a flinch from it... and was able to hold it at that age to a breath over an inch @ 100.

Would I let a child of mine do that? HECK NO.  a 243 or 2506 is MAX until they get to around 15. Then you can start pourin the recoil cobs to em.

I'm the devil's son..... call me young gun.

Swift if you 9 year old is shooting 300wsm WOW  tough kid.... get a Limbsaver recoil pad on the on the T3.  I just bought the 25-06 for my wife and she hates recoil and she she does not even feel the kick.

By the way Tikka................  easly trigger adjustment .. very accurate

Love my 700 SPS.  Accurate out of the box, have not failed to drop deer at long ranges every year.  7MM Mag.  Your welcome to try a couple shots out of it if your in my area to see if you like it.  Devils Lake.  (gun not for sale)

I have a 25-06 in a Ruger M77 with a medium barel and absolutely love the gun.  Can barely feel the recoil and I have shot a lot of critters with it.

I'm not sure why i can't get it accurate at over 200 yards i used to be able to go up to 300 in high school without any problem it was the only gun i ever shot. I've asked around and it seems like i've just shot it out since it was handed down from my dad to me and i shot it alot over the past 10 years. I've read a few articles that claim they only last 500 rounds which i know i surpassed that number years ago

I almost bought a tikka a few years ago but i got a browing a bolt instead. I wanted a short mag caliber and hated that tikka didnt offer them in a short action. Kinda defeats the purpose of a short mag if the bolt is long.
