Heart River - Tuesday, August 24, 2010 | |
Me and a buddy are planning to float the heart river in a canoe for a couple days. We plann on starting at the spillway and going 20 miles or so downstream. We are trying to decide on a time frame for targeting smallies. I was thinking the begining of Oct. Could someone let me know if I'm close?

Seems like I posting reports to myself about the fishing on the Heart River. Oh well, that's okay. Went up north of Flasher again last night with a couple of buddings. Didn't think it would be to good because they must be letting water out of Heart Butte Res. and the water is running hard and fast again, and it is muddy. Anyway, right away I caught a 12 in walleye. Released. Then one of my buddies caught a small pike. Released. Then the other buddy caught a 21 inch walleye. That's pretty big for the Heart. Luckily they don't eat fish, so I cleaned it up and plan on having with a nice ribeye. End of post.

Nice day Saturday so I thought I'd try the Heart again north of Flasher. First cast a sixteen inch smallie. Released.
Second cast, another decent smallie. Released. Ended up keeping 3 walleyes. 15" 16" and a 17". Also caught and released a small pike. Not a bad day on the Heart. Good luck all.

Been up to the Heart north of Flasher a few times this spring looking for walleyes. Rivers been to high and muddy. Yesterday it was finally down, but muddy yet. Caught one walleye about 13", and yes I ate the bugger. Was a nice appetizer to go with the Ribeye I grill. Anyways, it won't be long, I hope, and the water will clear up. Good luck to you fellow fisherman.

Went up to the Heart north of Flasher to hit acouple of my holes. Weren't any holes. Water is way up and running to fast. Hopefully this week will lower the levels so I can hit it next weekend. |
