Im heading to Laramie WY today for a conference. Have any of you been there? Where are the good places to eat and drink? Any site to see? Any words of caution?

Ive never been there so it should be interesting!

Not sure it you have a route preference but if you want to go through Cody (maybe on the way home), there is the Buffalo Bill Museum. Was just there while flyfishing last week and it is the 2nd largest firearms museum in the country. Absolutely incredible, over 2500 antique and modern firearms all american made.

And the drive is all mountain scenery.

Bring your winter gear and chains for your truck. Always be prepared for winter weather there until the middle of June. Be care of the Interstate if its wet or snowing. I think that's the most dangerous road in Wyoming. There's a few good places to eat in the old downtown areas.

If push comes to shove and you are looking for something to do, you could take a tour of the University of Wyoming

We are traveling to beach then I think we will be taking US Highway 85 most of the way, It turns into Interstate 90, then turns to interstate 20, then back to another highway.

Any one every drive the road that crosses Sundance to Four Corners? I wonder which of these roads would be good short cuts.

Remember WY has some cheap gas due to low state gas taxes, so if you need a fill and are getting close...

There was a good steak house on the south side called the Cavelryman I think was the name. Don't know if it is still there.

yes take I90 to Sundance and go south to four corners then south on 85 to Newcastle and Lusk.  At Luske go west to the interstate.  Faster than going to torrington and Cheyenne on the two lane.

I have on the way to elk hunt last year. Nice drive, no traffic. Then suddenly you encounter an old bar on the side of the road. Looks like a cool spot to hit this year on the cycle. There sign says something like 'next beer, 72 miles.'

I agree with going west of Lusk to I-25 then south to Wheatland, right after Wheatland there is state hiway34 that cuts across to US 287 that drops you right down into Laramie,  Its a lot quicker than going down to Cheyenne.  Went to school down there but I couldn't tell you any good places to eat, couldn't afford much more than Micky D's at that time.

Yup, the Cavelryman is still there, and they have a real nice 28 day aged ribeye.

Spending more than 5 minutes is WY is more than I can handle.  I believe God took a dump, called it WY and forgot to come back and clean up the mess.  That is barren wasteland from corner to corner, border to border.  There's even some spots that my Siruis radio didn't work out in the middle of nowhere.

Hey Mod1220,

Wyoming is horrible.  Poor fishing and hunting too.  Its so bad,  I leave here to come to your state to hunt and fish.  Always make sure to use a guide and outfitter up there though -  :)     O.K.  get yourself some,  flame - on.

If you want peace, prepare for war...

I spent many months working in Sheridan, Gillette, Casper, Rock Springs and LeBarge, WY.  Saw a few elk and whitetail but the majority of the wildlife I saw was speed goats and jackrabbits.  Didn't see many places for fishing opportunities but did see a lot of orange/brown dirt and sage brush.  I didn't see a single cow, pig, chicken or any other livestock except a few horses.  Also didn't see any crop fields.  Pretty much barren wasteland throughout.
