Hanging Christmas Lights

The wife asked if I would risk my life and crawl up a ladder in freezing temps to give our house some holiday cheer.  I said I would do it, but I am trying to figure out the best way to hang the lights when your house has no gutters and steel eves.  I am thinking I need something to attach to the edge of the shingles.  Any thoughts?????

I see on the net that they do make shingle clips.  Any body have experience with these clips and where they bought them?

Yes they work well. I believe you can get them at Menards. I have used them for the past three years.

Make sure all the lights work prior to hanging them.

If you are using LED you should be ok for number of strings, however if you have regular lights keep in mind you can only string a certain number of strings together before they sttart blow'in fuses.

You must have read that in the official Electricians Code Book.

A staple gun works fine unless you staple through the wire like I've done a couple of times.

Don't do it. Understand, this is no return territory. Once started each year must be bigger and better. BTW, when we lived in Dickinson I was on the roof attaching lights. I asked the wife to move a ladder, and then evidently I said something about hanging lights she didn't like. She pulled the ladder down and I stayed up on the roof until my neighbor came home. This is one of many dangers. Just dont do it.

No way in heck will you catch me up on a ladder in freezing cold weather for something like this.  Too many stories about guys falling off right on their dome and either dying or being seriously injured.  My wife knows I'm an uncoordinated clutz, which is why I went to law school instead of doing something that requires climbing ladders, or real skill for that matter.

Does a row of lights across the front of the house ever really look that great anyways?  Call me a scrooge, but I'm a bigger fan of indoor decorations.

All I know is that I wish I would have thought of this since I now live next to the Griswald household.

Note To Wife:

Hi Sweetheart,

I am sorry about getting into an argument about putting up the Christmas lights.

I guess that sometimes I feel like you are pushing me too hard when you want something.

I realize that I was wrong and I am apologizing for being such a hard-headed guy.

All I want is for you to be happy and be able to enjoy the holiday season.

Nothing brightens the Christmas spirit like Christmas lights!

I took the time to hang the lights for you today and now I will be off to go hunting.

Again, I am very sorry for the way I acted yesterday.

I'll be home later.

Love you……
