Need some info fellas.
Brother and I got a gun safe for christmas
It is a Samuel gun safe. Pretty heavy duty
Just wondering if I can keep it in the garage? Garage is not heated(will be soon).
Installed except for garage.

Few variables here :

1. Make sure it has a dry rod in it , to keep humidity down for starters

2. I would want the garage heated before I put any arms in it

3. Summer humidity could still be an issue , if you pull wet vehicles in there during a rain storm etc.

I'm hoping to do the same as soon as I get a safe. All I was told is, if you have the dry rod, you should be fine.

Do you mean insulated instead of installed. My biggest concern would be the humidity as  Pheasant 54 stated.

dont put it in ur dam garage

put it in ur dam basement, (fire protection, heat rises....i think) also, you'll have a betr constant temp and will b able to control humidity more easily

go get one of those heavy dam duty appliance dollies from may nerds and recruit 4 of ur closest dam friends

put it in a corner, and bolt the dam thing down (flip/pry protection)

make sure your door shuts towards one of the walls (pry protection)

i shouldnt have skipped my coffee this a.m.......damnit

Humidity in summer is a bigger concern to me than in winter as far as actual rusting/corrosion is concerned.

Rapid heating/cooling can be hard on multi-lens optics but inside of an insulated building and then a fire-proof safe should mean that heating/cooling is fairly gradual.

Long term storage = a good wipe down, some alcohol swabs, some honest to goodness grease, in that order.

Lag bolts into the floor or into some wall studs are advisable.  If somebody's stealing stuff, they're not gonna care about scratches/dents.  2 men of average strength could have a ~500# safe into a pickup or van pretty darned quick.  A few hundred pounds worth of lead shot slows things as well but not like bolts.  Bolting to the floor AND the wall wouldn't piss me off either.  When it comes to theft of a safe, one must consider ways to mitigate leverage.  If they can't pry the safe up off the floor or away from the wall, they're going to have a pretty darned hard time getting the whole safe, then they gotta figure a way to get inside the safe if they want it's contents, much more time consuming.

Why yes indeed I can walk on water..............but I do stagger on alcohol.

A relative of mine has kept his in his garage for over 10 years with no problems. his garage is heated sometimes but not always. His safe is pretty big and over 1,000 lbs. He figured if someone can get in his garage, open the doors get it loaded onto a trailer/truck, without being seen or heard by himself or his neighbors, more power to them. They used a forklift to get it in there.

He also keeps a golden rod in there to keep eveything stable. As long as you are not in and out of there everyday, you shouldn't have to worry about humidity. Most new safes have a seal on the to try and prevent moisture or (steam in case of a fire) for several minutes. So the humidity levels should stay fairly stable.
