gun purchase back ground check delay

How does a guy find out why there is always a 2-3 day delay when I purchase a firearm?
I have a Utah CCWP and still get tagged and delayed?    I do not have a common name nor any criminal history.    I've tried to get an answer from my local sheriff, ATF and Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification but I get no explanation.     The guy from UBCI said in Utah a CCWP holder can get put on a "list" to avoid the delay.     I was told ND does not honor the Utah permit when purchasing a firearm.    So much for "reciprocity".
How can I find out why there is a delay?    ATF said they would get back to me but of course they never did.

I still havent gotten mine...
I have a REAL hard time complying with a blackmail policy.
Do this check, and pay us money, or its a felony.
Last time I checked, I DO have the right to defend myself...
But I understand their fear.... streets becoming like the "wild west"...
But as recent  news shows, even 100% supposedly sane people can snap ( look at Major Hassan).

I'll probably get off my duff and get it done next spring, been to busy as of late between work and studying... to even give it much thought...

Just need to grab the study material and give someone a call I guess... but I'll do it begrudgingly... I simply hate the idea of having to pay for a god given right... Id don't feel that it's a "priveledge" even though thats what they deem it.

Worked at a sporting goods store here in alabama. Seems if you have any kind of security clearence at all the first person you talk to does not have the authority to do the background ck. needed as some of your info is blocked because of security clearence you have and has to go to a supevisor. You are calling the atf and further ck. has to go to FBI. We have a nuclear plant close by and most of the workers get a delay. We are also close to Fort Rucker and most of the people in the armed forces get delays. Atf sometimes call back in 15 to 20 mins. sometimes dont. I know it makes no sense but it is the Govt.

Call the ATF and get a UPIN. (Unique personal identification number)  This gives you a number, not a name to check.  Do you give your social on the forms?  That can slow it down.  As far as ND goes, you have to have a permit to carry in the state you are purchasing the firearm.  So, get a ND permit, and there will be no more phone calls for approval.
Nothing pisses a person off more than getting delayed on a fireamrs purchase.  I suppose getting denied would be worse.

I would also opt for the class 1 permit if you have the extra time to do a shooting test. With the class 1 permit youll have reciprocity with 30 states compared to 21 with a class 2. There are also 6 additional states pending reciprocity under the new ND law (class 1). Hopefully they all accept. Id like to be able to carry in MN as they are one of the states that are on the "pending" list.

A 2 to 3 day wait doesn't sound right.
The last purchase I made before I had a CCW was from a FFL dealer about 70 miles away.  I did not get approved immediately so had to make a second trip.  Before I left I asked him what happened if he didn't hear back from them.  He said they have 24 hours to provide a valid reason to decline the purchase.  If he doesn't hear back within 24 hours he can sell the firearm.  But that was about 10 years ago so things may have changed.

Why get a permit?  The Second Amendment is my CWP.  Just don't let anyone know you're carrying.

I have a ND permit and it's never taken me more than 1 minute for them to clear it.    Like Jiffy says, its not a bad idea to get the Utah one or a few others, too.

You guys will enjoy this one, and it TRUE, too!  In the wake of all those stabbing and chopping up of school kids in China by crazies protesting stuff, some Chinese politicians wanted to start registering EVERY knie and cleaver in China over 15 cms. length!   I kid you not.
A few days later, the BBC reported that they dropped that idea because it would be too costly and unworkable with a population in the trillions and such a large country!
So there are antis in every country! LOL

Gracias? I think Jiffy and Jokostel might be illegal Mexicans. "He doth protest too much" comes to mind.
