Hi Yanks,
I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are gua ranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note Americans, before it's too late!
Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in?

More kids are killed by abortion than ever have been or will be killed by semi auto guns.   I think a good compromise would be we give up our semi auto guns and the liberals give up abortion.   All kids will be safer.

55% Favor Assault Weapons Ban, But 62% Oppose Complete Gun Ban

Most Americans favor taking semi-automatic and assault-type weapons off the market but also are wary of a society in which only the government has guns. Very few would opt for a neighborhood where they couldn

I wish someone could define what exactly a "Assault Weapon" looks like then maybe I could understand what they want to ban.

Is it the mag capacity, the color, the design, the manufacturer, what is it that defines an Assault Weapon? If you say it's the guns appearance, design or capability my answer will be that 90+% of the women at the local bar have the appearance, design and capability of being prostitutes -- but that doesn't mean that they are

I'm sorry but all these stats don't mean a damn thing . One has to look at the real reason they want to ban "assualt weapons" and it certainly isn't for the safety of the people. They could care less about these stats cause they have absolutely nothing to do with why the are banning then in the first place. They even have us(conservative america) fooled into thinking that this is the reason they want to ban ARs. The real reason is much more scary and thats power. They're disarming the people and we're all fooled into thinking they are doing it for our own good. Just like they're are raising taxes, "spreading the wealth" and paying your fair share in the name of helping the needy. The only thing getting wealthier and benefiting from higher taxes is big government. Same with the "fiscal cliff" bull. Its all smoke and mirrors. We need to wake up.  We're being duped.

You are naive at best.   It's not about what they can do right now it really is about what they want to do and would do if they had super majorities in the Senate and House.   We are one election cycle away from that possibility.  Throw in one more radical liberal on the Supreme Court and there you go.
