Just told the wife about my weekend plans and forgot she's going to be out of town. She told me the plans are fine as long as I take my 10 yr old son and my nephew along. They don't plan to fish, as we just recently got a couple kayaks and they plan to paddle the lake most of the day. Make sure you don't put out a wake for them as it's there first time in the yak.
I'll bet a steak dinner against any one of you that the largest and most walleyes come off my boat. 22' foot toon and so far we've go 14 guys & at least three children coming along. Pulling both jetskis, 5th wheel and bringing two kayaks as well.
Bring it' on....
You guys mind if I call some friends from Minnesota? They have been complaining to me lately how slow the fishing is out east, and would love to come do some real walleye fishing for a change. Hell it will only be 3 more boats. There is room right?
Let me know soon
Looks like we have ourselves a convoy!!
If this goes as well as I'm sure it will, we should make this a monthly event from ice out until the deer season opener! I'd make it year round, but there are way to many locals fishing it in the winter and ruining it for the rest of us.
Was down at the G & F head office this afternoon applying for over the counter turkeys, and they said reports out of Goose Lake were fantastic!
We were only going to Rugby to visit anyway, so will camp at Goose Lake and my wife will drive up to Rugby once she has her limit and I'll stay for C & R! I'll pick up some gas in Harvey on the way through and maybe we can all have a go with Dirty's Jet Skiis!
My neighbor will be going up with me pulling his boat too, and maybe my son and grandchildren from Aberdeen will get up too! The more the merrier! I hope the campground is big enough although we can just all camp out on the prarie! I'll bring my propane powered artificial fire we use on the deck. Not authentic like a real crackling fire but looks good and we don't want to burn out the Harvey area!
sounds like great fun, I can bring a whole pickup load of adult beverages in glass bottles so we can have target practice on the beach when its too dark to be on the water.TW
dirty you dont think any of the locals will be out there do you??? I hate when there small boats are in the way of the Big ole Crestliner
Hey all you A-holes better better not make a peep after 8 pm cause i am gonna be trying to get some sleep
Kevin, you guys can sure fish with me. Good seeing you again! I have some kids waterskiis I'll throw in. My engine is only 115 hp but it should pull a couple kids at a time anyway.
would anybody like me to bring my speargun so they could try it out???
you guys are very funny. i dont see how anybody can argue that fish in a lake are for locals only or for winter fishing only. That is what are license fees and taxes go towards and we all have a right to catch fish, but im sure most of you guys are no different from me in that you have that good fishing spot or cattail slough that holds pheasants or deer and those animals arent ours but we sure the hell arent going to yell the exact location from the highest building. There are great fishing lakes that are hardly ever mentioned and all that a person has to do is do a little research and check stocking reports to find them. Good luck fishing to all.
Hey Buckmaster. I've got 3 spearguns so will toss in my scuba gear and flags and all that. I'll get my tanks down to get them filled before 6 pm! I don't know if we can LEGALLY shoot walleyes in that lake, but there will always be carp! And if a walleye swims in front of the spear while I'm shooting carp???? Guess we eat him! LOL
I'm leaving in about an hour.
See everyone this weekend. Can't wait. I'm bringing my kids and neighbors kids too! Gotta couple of coolers to fill up with fresh fish!
Bobkat, we will be meeting up with Dirty with the pontoon. It makes it easier to cart coolers of beer around. We will hang the giant FBO banner on the side of the camper.
Hey, have you heard if we can genetically engineer carp with GDI ;-) Guessing it would result in tremendous growth rates and no overpopulation.
You can't aim a duck to death.
I hate to spoil you're plans, but THERE IS NO PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH on GOOSE LAKE!!!!! The only one I've heard of is a privately owned area where some of the locals are allowed to put in, no dock or any concrete ramp. Shore fishing is good on the east and west ends.
I carry a gun cuz cops are to heavy.
bs, just drop the boat in on one of the roads that are now underwater, shouldnt be too bad.
Does your airplane have the ability to land on water?
Hmmm Looked at ND game fish Lake contour map and also Google map 3D, Comparing those two NDG&F dept map and Google map, Theres 2 Goose Lake??
are you guys talkin the ones north of Harvey?? I know you guys probably are already gone... :P
Man, I just couldn't wait so I ran out and just nailed these 5 and a couple throwbacks this evening. Took off right after work and hit the water about 5:45. Was done fishing at 9 and took the pic well after dark when I got back to Bismarck.
I wouldn't exactly say they were "jumping in the boat". I caught 7 total and tossed back two for another day (maybe a year or two???). Chartreuse and white rapalas caught five of the seven total, even broke a darn pole tonight. Oh well, it had to be well over 20 years old at this point. Funny part is it broke just above the junction (2-piece pole) and it caught the majority of the fish after it broke. Unlike stevepike, I only bring two poles so I had no backup plan. Kinda makes Steve look smart now that I finally needed a spare pole and didn't have one with....

By the way, it's getting kind of late, so you guys should all feel free to start without me in the morning!
One last note before I hit the hay. The biggest walleye tonight was right at the 20.5 inch mark. The two smaller ones in the pic are about 15.5, didn't tape the mid range fish, suspect they were about 17.
Wow, nice score Allen !!! I hope you are able to make it this morning again; I am just getting up and getting ready to meet up with the Fargo boys to head out, they told me 4AM. I have and feeling this is going to be a weekend to remember after seeing your success from last evening. I wish I would have gotten more stuff ready before going to bed, I have a feeling this is going to be a late night and a long weekend.....
where exactly is goose lake I got google earth up and looking for it
I'm talking about the Goose Lake north of Harvey...
This is all my fault, lol. I guess the phrase "the are jumping in the boat" should never be used to descibe how the fish are biting.

they not the, my bad.
I myself have fished Goose Lake two times this year and both times have trolled up my limit of nice fish. I also feel though that fish in such a small lake with no spawning area that i know of and so willing to bite will be fished out in a matter of a year or two. Does anyone else agree or am i alone on this. and also bright colored cranks at about 10-12 feet worked best.
Word of the fantastic Goose Lake bite has now spread east all the way to the great state of NY. Now me and a fleet of 10 boats from NY are heading to Goose. We are going to pick up another 5 boats in Wisconsin to make it a convoy of 15 boats, I think we are just going to buy a house in Harvey to use as a combination duck hunting walleye fishing shack.
See you soon.
I overheard some Oahe bound Minnesota fisherman while filling up with Gas this morning. Turns out they too have heard of the famous Goose Lake and are taking a detour there instead. Word travels fast!!!!!
I just got home from the golden Goose. The game warden caught me with 43 walleyes and said he would let me off with a warning if I gave him my fish. It took me a few hours but I managed to fill my cooler back up with fish, I just killed the smaller ones and tossed them up on shore. I felt a little bad about taking so many fish out of a lake that is meant for ice fishing only,so I netted a truckload of carp and dumped them in there. Do carp bite in the winter???
