Goose Lake

Man, the walleye fishing is HOT right now in Goose Lake! I recommend heading that direction before the fishing slows down in the fall and winter. I guess this lake has an awesome summer bite and is a great lake to be out on. Good luck everybody!

After reading the reports I spoke with a few friends and we decided to make the trip and will be fishing Goose Lake this weekend. So far it will be Allen, Dirty, MossyMO, Fox Island Outfitter, Walleye Monkey, Tonts, bowhuntn and 3boys. We only have 3 boats set up for us so far, but if more people want to show up, the more the merrier! Sorry for the last minute invite.

I'm planning on going as well, however I can't decide if we should bring two fishing boats or just bring my 22' pontoon? We've got 9 guys so far, if we get anymore we'll just bring the toon and a trough to keep all our EYES in. When you see us out there come say hello....

I am glad to see that you guys are going out there and utilizing the resource thast the Game and Fish Department allows us to enjoy year round. I have heard nor seen anything from them that would lead anyone to believe this is a locals only or winter only fishery. Catch 'em while the catching is good! Wish I could go with!

yeah, I'm in. I'll ask StevePike if he and his family can make it up there. I don't think they have motor restictions at all...at least I hope not because I'm bringing the big boat up. I also plan on bringing the jetskis so we can tear around the lake after taking a few limits of fish. This is going to be SWEET!

Buckmaster81, do you have an email address? We'll give you the details.

One step ahead of you guys. Just got the boat hooked up and kids packed for the weekend. Wife is just packing a cooler of bevvies and we are on our way today. Should be frying fish by evening. 4 limits a day for three days, eating all we can, I will watching for you guys stop on in and have a cold one. I will probably cook up some extra fish this evening so don't worry about supper, just take off after work and stop by my campsite and I feed you. FISH FOR EVERYONE.

dirty, do they have motor restrictions? The two boats we planned on bringing have 200 & 225hp engines. Well they both have kickers on em' If we can't fire up the main source. If we decide to bring the toon instead I'll have my buddy pull up my two Seadoo's and we'll have a riot. Do they allow waterskiing on this lake?

Hey, I just confirmed with a few of my friends from Ellendale that this lake really is on fire! Outstanding!! They said they would meet us there. So that makes 2 more boats and 7 more guys. Hell, this is going to be one hell of a party!

BadBoyz, I'm not sure about the waterskiing but from the way it sounds, we are going to need something to do after we limit out. I'll do some checking.

Jeez rutn4fun, ya gotta save some for the next meal. Or catch more I guess.

So, does anyone know just how big these are on the average?

I figure I should start preparing myself for the upcoming rules changes and need to know if a 48 quart cooler will suffice, or if I need to bring the 80 quart cooler to bring a few fish home in.

Hey can The crew and myself come? If so we will have 2 more boats, 6 or 7 kids and 7 or 8 adults. Might even consider bringing the jetski and tubes if enough are interested. Thanks, and let me know if I can party too. Fished it many times in the winter, and have an idea where the hot spots might be.

We just got back with another limit and the party has already started up there. On top of that, we used the smaller walleyes (20") as bait to catch our limit of 50lb snapping turtles as well. Its a great time for the whole family. Enjoy.

Kevin, don't worry about the GPS points. I never go fishing without mine and I am willing to share with everybody on FBO.

Couple of buddies have a few hotspots already in there GPS. I'm sure we'll add to that this weekend!

I decided to take Monday and Tuesday off next week as well. With the fishing as hot as it is, a guy's just got to use up some PTO. Besides, as many fish as we'll be pulling out of the lake, there's a good chance there will be none next year and the game and fish will just pull the plug on the stocking program.

If anyone wants to hang around a few extra days you're welcome at my camp site! There will also be a $10 bet on the largest walleye, but in order to enter it in you MUST keep it and bring it back to camp where we will have the standard tape measure and scale. That way we can be sure no one wins on some phony fish story!

What an awesome weekend so far I count nine boats two jet skies and possibly one pontoon.
We were going to go to Alkaline over by Tappen but I guess we should head north instead, sounds like a big ole party.
Two more boats shouldn't hurt anything. I mean with a surface area of 462 acres should be more then enough room for everybody.

Here's the deal though I don't want any of you charging by me or my buddies like ten feet away from us at full throtttle. I'll have my pencil and paper handy to write down boat numbers.

MAN AM I PUMPED!!!!

I agree Buckmaster, the small ones taste best so I'm keeping them for the frying pan. If they're small enough it's almost like eating fish sticks after you fry 'em up! Nothing like Goose Lake fish sticks if you ask me!

I'm also totally stoked to win the big fish contest. I figure if I bring as many fish over 22 or 23 inches back as I can, one of them is bound to be the heaviest. Of course, the medium sized fish make nice pictures so I'll be keeping them too.

This may be the best fishing trip of the year! I plan on getting super drunk one of the days and hopping on the old jetski. Then I'm going to charge all you other boats and spray the heck out of you!! Ha! This is gonna be sweeeeeet!

Wife and i just canceled weekend plans so we can bring the boys. Nothing like a hot lake to get kids interested in fishing. We will be pulling the camper if we can get a ride on the 'toon, we woudl be appreciative.

Just told the wife about my weekend plans and forgot she's going to be out of town. She told me the plans are fine as long as I take my 10 yr old son and my nephew along. They don't plan to fish, as we just recently got a couple kayaks and they plan to paddle the lake most of the day. Make sure you don't put out a wake for them as it's there first time in the yak.

I'll bet a steak dinner against any one of you that the largest and most walleyes come off my boat. 22' foot toon and so far we've go 14 guys & at least three children coming along. Pulling both jetskis, 5th wheel and bringing two kayaks as well.

Bring it' on....

Hey

You guys mind if I call some friends from Minnesota? They have been complaining to me lately how slow the fishing is out east, and would love to come do some real walleye fishing for a change. Hell it will only be 3 more boats. There is room right?

Let me know soon

Looks like we have ourselves a convoy!!

If this goes as well as I'm sure it will, we should make this a monthly event from ice out until the deer season opener! I'd make it year round, but there are way to many locals fishing it in the winter and ruining it for the rest of us.

Was down at the G & F head office this afternoon applying for over the counter turkeys, and they said reports out of Goose Lake were fantastic!
We were only going to Rugby to visit anyway, so will camp at Goose Lake and my wife will drive up to Rugby once she has her limit and I'll stay for C & R! I'll pick up some gas in Harvey on the way through and maybe we can all have a go with Dirty's Jet Skiis!
My neighbor will be going up with me pulling his boat too, and maybe my son and grandchildren from Aberdeen will get up too! The more the merrier! I hope the campground is big enough although we can just all camp out on the prarie! I'll bring my propane powered artificial fire we use on the deck. Not authentic like a real crackling fire but looks good and we don't want to burn out the Harvey area!

you guys are very funny. i dont see how anybody can argue that fish in a lake are for locals only or for winter fishing only. That is what are license fees and taxes go towards and we all have a right to catch fish, but im sure most of you guys are no different from me in that you have that good fishing spot or cattail slough that holds pheasants or deer and those animals arent ours but we sure the hell arent going to yell the exact location from the highest building. There are great fishing lakes that are hardly ever mentioned and all that a person has to do is do a little research and check stocking reports to find them. Good luck fishing to all.

Hey Buckmaster. I've got 3 spearguns so will toss in my scuba gear and flags and all that. I'll get my tanks down to get them filled before 6 pm! I don't know if we can LEGALLY shoot walleyes in that lake, but there will always be carp! And if a walleye swims in front of the spear while I'm shooting carp???? Guess we eat him! LOL

Bobkat, we will be meeting up with Dirty with the pontoon. It makes it easier to cart coolers of beer around. We will hang the giant FBO banner on the side of the camper.

Hey, have you heard if we can genetically engineer carp with GDI ;-) Guessing it would result in tremendous growth rates and no overpopulation.

HEY Everybody,
I hate to spoil you're plans, but THERE IS NO PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH on GOOSE LAKE!!!!! The only one I've heard of is a privately owned area where some of the locals are allowed to put in, no dock or any concrete ramp. Shore fishing is good on the east and west ends.

I carry a gun cuz cops are to heavy.

Man, I just couldn't wait so I ran out and just nailed these 5 and a couple throwbacks this evening. Took off right after work and hit the water about 5:45. Was done fishing at 9 and took the pic well after dark when I got back to Bismarck.

I wouldn't exactly say they were "jumping in the boat". I caught 7 total and tossed back two for another day (maybe a year or two???). Chartreuse and white rapalas caught five of the seven total, even broke a darn pole tonight. Oh well, it had to be well over 20 years old at this point. Funny part is it broke just above the junction (2-piece pole) and it caught the majority of the fish after it broke. Unlike stevepike, I only bring two poles so I had no backup plan. Kinda makes Steve look smart now that I finally needed a spare pole and didn't have one with....
