Looking at buying a 98 Ski doo Formula 3 600. It is the triple. Anyone have any experience with this machine or motor. It is low miles. Any problems with this motor. Whats a good price now? Thanks

I am allways leary of a older triple even if it is a rotax.  1000.00 to 1500.00 depending on shape. On old snowmobiles sitting is just as hard on them as rideing them.

Good motor, that was the sled of the year back then. $1500 would be a good price for a clean one.

Yea but how many blown up newer twins do you see in the classifieds all over the place. And in those same classifieds you see old triple xlt and such with 7000 + miles on them. just sayin

1500-1800 is in the ballpark if its in good shape. the skidoo 600 and 700 triples had a problem with the pto crank bearings. the outer bearing doesnt scavenge enough oil and 9 times out of 10 fails, usually within the first 2000 miles. there is a fix but the engine has to be torn down and a hole drilled in the top case to get oil to the outer bearing. i own 3 mach 1 700's and have drilled the holes and they are still going. i had a 96 fIII 600 and a 96 form z  583 and the triple smokes the twin every time. a bit heavier but i prefer the triple.

ditch banging no, 10000 feet above sea level yes  i have to remeber most are flat landing it here and that extra weight is not a issue like out west.  I guess if you look at the xlt and the xcr 600 you would see less as there was less produced.  i have had both a xlt and xcr both never had a problem just a big bore twin guy now or should i say before i was married and could go to the mountains at the drop of a hat.  oh i miss the good old days

I bought the machine, it only has 350 original miles. Figured I could take my chances. I have read about the wiring harness issue and the crank issue too. It seems the crank issue is not a 100 percent deal. I suppose it is a real pain to tear it down and drill that hole. I'll ride it this winter and than see what happens. Is it hard on these sleds to be pulling a portable icehouse at medium slow speeds? Thanks for the previous replies too.

350 wow! What did you get it for?

KurtR, I couldn't agree with you more! Just a ditch banger flatlander sled and yes it was allot easier to head west not long ago lol!
Heck I used to live close to cooke and put on over 3k a year in the high country, seems like a long time ago lol!

Have fun with the formula labz it will be a good sled for you just keep it jetted right!
