Best of luck to all Fishingbuddy posters who are running in the Fargo Marathon and Half Marathons or any other races.
The best thing about these races is that there are NO LOSERS, only winners!    Everyone's a winner there in my book, finish the race or not!
I hesitate to mention any names of anyone who is entered for fear of leaving out someone.
But give it hell, be careful and hope everyone finishes without any injuries!

Hey thanks Bobcat!!  Sounds as if it's going to be a tad bit windy and humid, maybe even a shower or two around 8ish.  Temperature shouldn't be too much of a problem for the 10k and fellow half marathoners but the marathoners are going to have to watch their hydration.  Remember to drink before you are thirsty, if you're thirsty, you're already well on your way to dehydration.  Make sure to drink at least 10 to 12, 8 oz. (or more) glasses of water the day before and stay away from caffeine and alcohol as they act as diuretics.  Listen to your body and don't go out too fast at the beginning of the race......most importantly, have fun and be proud of the hard work you've put in to get here.  See you all there!!  My BIB # is 5834 and I'll be walking around the dome around 6:45ish or so.  I plan on lining up around the 8:30 pace group.  If you see me stop by and say hi, even I don't know you.

Good luck Gents and I hope you all have a great race!!!

Post times and comments here after the race.

Jiffy,
Did you go to the dome and register already to get your number?  I was going to go tommorow around noon, hope that isn't a bad idea....  I will keep my eye out for you as I know nobody else who is running.

I hope the wind stays down for awhile in the morning as I hate running in the wind.

Best of luck to everyone who is running and have fun!!

Nope I haven't picked up my packet yet either.  I will probably do that about the same time as you tomorrow.  Actually they would appreciate it if you would go to this site:  http://www.onlineraceresults.com/race/view_race.php?race_id=13539#racetop, type your name in and it will give you your BIB number.  That way when you go to pick up your packet you can just tell them your number and it will make everything go much quicker.

Jiff and others.  Im working the medical team.  Most likely posted on a Gem car or golfcart last 1/2 mile or so of the course and/or at the finish line with H2O, ice, towels, etc,  and a wheelchair.

Hope no one codes again due to the heat and high temps like 2 years ago!!!

Good luck to you psychos.......

for me it should take around 50 to 55 minutes....hopefully.  Maybe a tad slower, I'm planning on going out a bit slower than what the second half of the race will take.  Of course this is just my "game plan" things can (and probably will) change on the fly.  Hopefully I feel so good I start to kick it down sooner...

I am hoping my competitive nature doesn't come out in the begining of the race and I wear out early.  Stick with the 8min miles the first half and see where it goes from there.  I am thinking 7 1/2 min. or less could take its toll on a guy come mile 12

Well you're going out a bit faster than I, I'm going to try and stick around 8:30s or 8:15s.  Maybe kick it up a notch when we turn around and head back towards the dome at around the 7 mile mark.  We'll see how everything is going at that point.  Yeeeeaahh, I'm not even going to try going into the 7:30 realm......that's just asking for trouble, for me anyway.

If you were a real good guy you'd let me draft off of you for the first 7 or so being there is going to be a pretty stiff wind (20ish) out of the SE.

8:30 - 8:15's would be perfect for me too, I just have this feeling that when the adrenalin starts kicking in a little at the start I will more than likely dabble into the 8mins maybe less.  The key would be controling that and stickning with the "game plan".  Either way it should be fun and hopefully not torcher at the end.  I will keep my eye out for you and maybe we can pace each other a little.

Yep the main thing I've found during my long runs are that I personally run WAY better when I keep my pace down for the first 3 or 4 miles and then gradually work into it.  You're right though, being discipline in the beginning of the race will be tough.  For me I just try and pay attention to what I'm doing and not worry about anyone else.  Although I've ran plenty of 5 and 10Ks (albeit 15 years ago)  this will be my first half marathon so I am not totally sure of what to expect.  If my long runs are any indication of how the race is going to go, my strong points are miles 7 to 13.

I'll be wearing a bright blue North Face shirt, black shorts, and Mizuno Wave Nirvania 6s.....hopefully we "run" into each other.

Like Luveyes says, don't try TOO hard either.  We want him just to cruise around in his Gemcar with nothing to do!    Hope the wind isn't bad.
I'm doing the MS 150 (bycycles) later this summer for raising money for  Multiple Sclerosis.  100 miles the first day, 75 the next.   Did it a few years ago and was the first Century we had done.  Fargo's great for a bike - the only hills are going over the interstates, but you can pay for it with wind.
Running or biking, at least a hill stops and it flattens out or goes downhill, but that danged wind doesn't!
Sounds like you've been planning well.  Carboloading tonight?    And some brews tomorrow night!

175 miles on a bike in 2 days is more than I'd care to do in such a short period.  I had a pretty bad burised heel which took me out of running for a couple weeks during the mid part of my training so I reverted to the bike during that time frame.  I put 100 to 125 miles a week on and I thought I was doing good.  I will say I'm a MUCH better runner than I am a biker.  Although I do enjoy riding on trails WAY over streets and concrete.  I've been trying to talk the wife and a couple friends into doing the Maah Daah Hey or at least part of it this summer.

I've been carb loading since wed. and there is more pasta on the menu for today.  One tip on carb. loading.  It's not that you have to eat 3 plates of pasta at each meal.  You should just make sure 60 to 70 percent of your NORMAL daily calories are carbs.  Its a common mistake many people make.  And drink LOTS of water today!!  LOTS!!

Speaking of beer, I haven't had more than 2 beers a day since the mid of Feb.  Tomorrow after the race, I'm have a few more than 2.    It will be short lived for me though.  I'm taking an easy week and then on the 31st I start a new training program for the Dick Beardslys half in Detroit Lakes on Sep. 11th.  I'm actually extremely excited for this schedule as this one is a little more advanced and has more speed work in it.  It's going to be tough but is will help a lot!!  The Dick Beardslys half has some pretty nasty hills in it.....have to prepare for it.

(ok.....maybe there were a FEW days I had more than two beers..... but not very many)

Jiffy, I've contacted Owl Eyes, she will be looking out for you too.  Good luck man, I have not ran that far since 1990 back in Pendleton.

Hah!   Hooters and some brews  tomorrow night, then!
I know quite a few people who have ran marathons and half marathons AND done Centuries on bikes, my wife included.   They all feel that Marathons and halfs m's  are  tougher than bike Centuries in some ways.
Running, unlike sitting on a bike,  pounds you every step of the way and ultimately wears you down from head to toe, and you can't coast downhil like on a bike!   My goofy bike is like sitting on and peddling  a lawn chair, so is even easier than a regular one!     My hats off to you guys!
