an armed robber after witnessing the robbery, ends up in jail.

This shooting subject has come up before righteous or not the shooter will end up in jail,UNLESS he or she can prove self defense, sadly this situation is happening all over the country these days.

Mpls. Police: Apparent Good Samaritan Fatally Shoots Robbery Suspect

Minneapolis police say a man who witnessed an elderly woman being robbed and pistol-whipped shot and killed her attacker.

Authorities say the armed robber confronted the woman in the parking lot of a grocery store about 10 p.m. Thursday, took her purse and hit her in the head with his gun. A man who witnessed the robbery chased the suspect and shot him.

When police arrived, the witness told officers he had a permit to carry a gun and that he had shot the armed robbery suspect during a confrontation outside a nearby restaurant. He told officers where they could find his handgun. He was detained for questioning.

Police say the robber who was fatally shot was in his 20s. Investigators say they found his gun near where the shooting took place.

Thursday's shooting is the 29th homicide so far this year citywide. At this time last year, there had been 38.

It's the "chasing" part that's gonna get him in trouble.

The guy shoulda gotten a pat on the back and a box of ammo for his trouble.

yep, even at the hospital if a crazy is trying to escape and gets past us we are not allowed to shoot with taser or anything just follow and call for PD, but if he turns back toward us to confront then its on like donkey kong., its in the use of force continuim, there was no more danger and should have just reported to the police. that even goes ona home invasion. more than likey he will see time.

Although I am on this guys side, he should be given a medal!

Hopefully there is more to the story than the news says.  Hope the shooter is exonnerated and rewarded for taking care of some trash.

If you pistol whip an old lady and take her money, you deserve a bullet IMHO.  The law may view it differently, though.

Note how the reporter is already referring to it as a  "homicide".

Yep, I think the guy maybe SOL!!  If the robber wouldn't have stopped beating the old lady when the guy confronted him that's one thing, and he would be alright.  However, the story doesn't say anything if the robber turned the gun on the man chasing him???  In that case there may be some justification, but like Swanson said, he probably shouldn't have cased the robber at all as long as the threat retreated and ran.  Either way I think he is SOL!!

Yeah, this part makes me think the guy is going to have a hard road ahead of him.  I think he may have been caught up in the moment since it wasn't acting in his own defense but rather attempting to be a good person.  The only thing i think could make it so this guy is free and  in clear is the exchange of fire - first from the low life theif.

Hope the shooter has it together,he seen the bad guys gun up front, then gave chase, form that point on the bad guy turns on the good guy,now shoot! BUT if the bad guy has back wounds exiting out the front side,he's SOL.

Yeah.  He should have shot the bad guy when he was pistol-whipping the old lady.  Probably didn't have time.

Turns out they let the good guy go for now, most likely this will end up before grand jury, the shooter made the decsion to shoot in this case during a robbery just like a cop would do,the shooter has the legal right to chase down the perp and make a citizens arrest, both guns were found at the scene,so maybe all is good on this one except for the shooter being grilled by the cops and court time.I would'nt be surprised the bad guyz family files a law suit here or some such thing.

Chase his ass through the WEEDS, shoot his glassware and roll a STOVE on his FOOT.

Horsager hopefully is not correct but the odds are in his favor.  EYE can site one instance where the jury was The Guy On a Buffalo.  Watched it on film at a Street Survivor seminar in the 90's.

a homicide is when a person kills another person. a murder is intentional killing and manslaughter is unintentional  or accidental killing so the use of homicide is correct and at least they didnt call him a murderer. Just trying to clear that up

Just seen this on the Forum's website:

No charges in shooting of Mpls robbery suspect

MINNEAPOLIS — A man who confronted and then shot a suspected robber in Minneapolis won't be charged.
