Car,the "Volt" is on the way here in the central plains,it has already splashed down on the east and west coast and sales are up with waiting lists.

We have one here to drive and play with for a few days,so far so good, drove it for an hour, hiway and in town,it has a 7gal gas tank, charges the battery when running on gas,we averaged 104mpg in that hour we drove it,plenty of power too,had it up to 100mph then the gov  kicked in,very quiet as well.So its a start, lets see what happens with the trucks~

Great. What is the price? How long are the batteries supposed to last? How much do replacement batteries cost? How do the batteries stand up to cold weather? Is insurance more for an electric? What is the range on a full charge when it is -20F?  How are you supposed to dispose of the batteries when they go bad?  What is the energy cost per mile driven?

Suppose you think the world is still flat too 3X, There are questions about the cold weather and this vehicle but GM has done one hell of a job in every review that I have read on this car. For the person living in a metro area with a 10-15 mile commute every day this could really be a great deal. Not using gasoline at all.

I give props to GM for this thing.

I would like to hear the answers to 3X's questions also. I think they are very legit questions.  I have to commute 90 miles each day to work and I don't think it would be very efficient in my case.  With the price of gas the fuel economy does seem quite appealing if it would work.  According to a friend of mine that works for a chevy dealer, the batteries for the prius and such don't have all that long of a life, relatively speaking, and cost several thousands of dollars to replace.

Answers will come, just a FYI the car is on the ground, they did tell us that the batteries are designed to out live the hybrid counter parts (silverado and taco) by 100%,they're warrentied for 5yrs.AS far as cold,it was -15degrees here yesterday when we went for a spin, burnt 3tenths of fuel in 30 miles,no issues with the cold thus far, more tests being done today -12 here. You can run 40miles on just the batteries, but keep in mind the gas engine kicks in when needed due to outside temps to keep the batteries warm and charged.

I think they're on the right track, the next electric vehilce on the table for GM is the suv equinox.

I have a Prius and have friends that have put over 200,000 on them and nobody that I know has has any problems with the batteries. They drive about 150-200 miles a day.
I drive about 90 miles a day.  The price is still too high, but I hope it works out for the volt.

These are legit questions.   Also,  what powers the heater if running on electric?

It's just a matter of time until Ford comes out with something better.... just like they always do :)    I'm sure next year we will be seeing something electric from them.

Always wondered about the heat myself.  Is it possible for batteries to heat a vehicle when it's 15 below?  200,000+ miles on batteries in a Prius sounds great. Might be something I have to look more into.

Forgot to mention that the cars are only 2 or 3 years old when they trade them. Not sure what happens after several years.

ain't so sure they give off enough heat for a good ole ND winters day.  but, i'd guess those batteries and the electric motor give off quite a lot of heat when they are pushing a car down the road at a good rate of speed.

I think it has a  purpose and it's a good engineering pursuit to say the least.  I still think the fuel economy numbers are skewed.  In an urban area this seems like a very good vehicle.  So how does it heat?
Yeah, it's kind of like that.

Wow $40,000!  Sounds like a great deal.  What is the tow rating?  I assume nothing.  And why doesn't GM get sued for false advertising?  They keep calling it an electric vehicle when it is really a hybrid?  Also how much taxpayer money is this car costing us?  Not to mention we are paying people to buy these things in the way of tax incentives.

But again everybody we are only $13 Trillion in debt.

Not to be negative but I am not sold on the whole electric thing. Give me something useful with fuel economy.

ummm....huh?  Name 1 thing Ford has designed/engineered better than Chevy or even Dodge for that matter.  Compare apples to apples here.  Don't try to compare the Mustang with a Chevette.  I'm trying to think of something yet nothing comes to mind.
