Glenburn Pond - Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Report Details
Took my 7 yr old to Glenburn Pond and we were skunked.  Glenburn has let there pond go.  My daughter and I had one bite in 2 hours on Worms!  Earlier in the summer in June and in years past we've caught trout and channel catfish.  Back in 2007 my oldest caught a 4 and 2 pound channel in that pound.  Now it's fished out and the town has done nothing to help out the local children to have something to do at least during the summer who cannot travel to Lake Darling.  There is 2-3 feet tall grass around the hole entire pond and weeds about 2-4 feet out in the water around the hole pond.  No one has done anything to try and preserve this pond.  I really do feel for the children who walk down the road and want to fish, but have nothing to fish for.  Very Sad!

Im sorry you waited until late July to take your kids fishing here. It was fished heavily by kids in May thru mid June. The water level was up at least 4 feet until recently with the dry weather. I would assume the grass it that tall because they did not mow the grass under water. As far as feeling sorry for our kids dont! Glenburn is doing something for the community kids in August. If you want to have some success please come earlier in the spring before the neighborhood kids fish it hard every day.

That and it winter killed hard this last winter. I saw many dead cats and crappies lining the shoreline this spring. There are trout in there, did you trying throwing a little mepps out there or anything with a spinner? Castmasters work well too.

I didn't wait till mid July, I took my two girls the first week in June and had a few bites and that was it before it was "fished heavily".  If its that way by July I do feel for the kids because they don't have a spot to fish, if there was something the town could do to stalk the pond in May and end of July, maybe that should be brought up at a town meeting??  For the grass being tall, it was just whever decides to mow is afraid to get a few feet from the pond, some areas where still wet others were very dry.

I did throw a small one inch silver spoon and a few number 3 spinners out and nothing hit.  Thanks for the suggestion though.
