I have been hammering bass up in the Canal for the last five to ten years. I just cast a shad or something similiar(wally diver, hornet, flickershad, etc) up to the rocks and bring it back while also slowly dragging either a lindy or bottom bouncer and spinner behind. If I ever kept bass or even took them in I'm sure I would have caught several whopper size smallies doing this. I'm not sure if this will help you or not, I'm usually west of West Park, but if that is with in your limits I have always done really well.

Fished canal Saturday and Sunday.Five Walleye keepers16-19".One 8# Northern.Five Smallmouth over 3# Two over 5#.Wife caught a monster Goldeye.One turtle and two cliff swallows.Bound to get better.Been catching lots of close to record Smally's and nailing Wally's on a Finacky with 3"chartreuse tube bait.It hasn't made it to the bottom yet .Wally's all hit it on the drop.Bass will wait a little longeror hit as soon as it splashes and Pike will hit it instantly.They must think it's a frog.All other fish caught on 1/16 th Jig with large hook and minnow.Turtle was caught on hind leg by jig.Caught about 15 other small bass and a half dozen small wally's.Slowest fishing in years.

Went out last night and got skunked. Threw the tackle box at them and only got 2 bites to show for it. Fished West Park to Heckers, and you CANNOT get under the bridge with a windshield. Honestly, there is nothing left but carp...
