I had one delivered last year, they forgot a few items and the garage door was beat up but they delivered missing/damaged parts to my door at no extra charge.

The kits are just a parts list, so if its your first time or dont want to make a dozen trips to menards i would recommend it.

If you have a kit delivered make sure to specify where exactly you want the materials dropped.  On my order it specified front curb aparently and if i wasnt there to watch them deliver it would have been on the front curb not the back alley.

Make sure the delivery coordinator knows whats going on, get names, make them repeat back to you what they are supposed to do and have them write it down or else they will say "yup" and nothing will happen.

Didn't have many complaints. I purchased a 24'x27' two car garage kit last year. Took a week to put it up. The wood not being the greatest quality was my only complaint. Had plenty of warped boards, also had to make a few runs to the store to get extra 2x4's and 2x6's to get proper support for the roof and walls. Garage door hardware isn't the best quality so I just returned that and actually had a door professionally installed.

I can't vouche for their garage kits, but I can speak to their shitty lumber.  I would recommend hand picking your own lumber. It's pretty tough to beat their prices on garage kits though

X 1000.  I built 2 decks on my old house and I sorted through a lot of crap boards in the back of Menards.  Had to take a few warpys, but avoided some doozies.

Not to mention the fact that they always seem to stack the boards that you need first on the bottom of the pile so you end up restacking the whole damn load anyways

Actually its not even close. I priced out a 26' x 36' garage this spring. The menards kit included door and openers. It was over $2,000 cheaper than the closest priced lumber yard and the lumber yard didn't even include the garage doors. Granted the lumber yard priced out fiberboard siding and menards was vinyl but still...$2,000?

Now, about the lumber. I found that Menards often carries wet wood, especially green treat. It often shows up straight but after spending a few days in the sun it dries rapidly and warps in the worst way. My suggestion is that if you are going to build plan to get the lumber and get cracking. If possible store the wood in the shade and sheet it as soon as possible. Worst part is because the lumber is so raw and it warps Menards won't even take it back without majorly discounting it. This burns you because they sent you the wet wood and it dried within a week of your possession rendering it useless. Anyway, just a tip. Good luck

After building a couple homes with menards lumber I will never use it again.  I'll gladly pay extra for quality lumber from a local supplier.

And just because you get it framed up before it dries doesnt prevent alot of the warping.   I was just in a basement that ws framed with Menards lumber and about 1/3 of the 2x4s used in framing had twisted so bad they pulled out of the nails in the sill or top plate and need to be replaced.
The treated stuff is absolute garbage! I replaced a deck last summer that the 4 of  6 4x6's that had been set 4' in the ground  had twisted so bad they pulled away from the band joists and had to be replaced along with about half the 2x10 joints that had crowned so bad the deck looked like a wave pool.  The deck was less than 2 years old and basically had to be replaced.

Home Depots has much better wood. (Lowes too).  And they both price match.

I quit buying Menards lumber also. It's just not worth the headache of sorting through the junk .
Draw up a sketch of what you want for a garage and take it to a couple of good lumber yards. I think you'd be surprised how competitive they are. The other thing to know is -- you can return lumber. Just try to keep it clean. If it twists and warps when you get it home, take it back and get new.

I like shopping at Menards but you do get some crap there. Pick your own wood for sure. I buy ther hand tools because they are inexpensive and for the most part, disposable. however, its nice to have a couple of everything.

if it has a moveable part and says tool shop or masterforce on it.   Its disposable.  usually after no more than 10 uses.  That stuff is garbage.
