I'm a former North Dakotan, now living in Idaho. I have coem to love fly fishing, but I never knew it existed when I grew up in ND. Anyone out there ever fly fish in ND? I am looking to give it a whirl on my trips back to visit family.

Check out www.mvffclub.com

There isn't any stream fly fishing in ND, but you can have unlimited fun with a fly rod throughout ND. It just depends on what you want to target. Bass, tout, panfish, walleye, pike, etc. can all be caught with a fly rod.

Where abouts do you come back to in ND? Suprisingly enough, there are quite a number of opportunities near most areas of ND. Including some great opportunities for Trout.

Actually there is a LOT of stream fly fishing in NoDak. It's called the Missouri River, Heart River, Turtle River (ND's only trout stream), any stream...its just usually not dry flies tho. Fly fishing is not just for trout on the surface! Try pools below dams/shallows in the Heart in Mandan for walleye, bass and northern, or below Heart Butte Dam. I occassionally fish the Missouri for walleyes and northerns on flies by fishing drop offs and areas same as I would pitch a jig. Have not yet tried for salmon or trout up near the tailrace but am always hoping to do that.

ND is full of great flyfishing oportunities for stillwater trout, pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass just to name a few. Start with www.mvffclub.com and look through the links page to other sites from there. You will find all kinds of information about flyfishing in ND.
