Flood Victims Unite

To everyone that was affected by the flooding this year on the Mouse River, Missouri, or anywhere else in the state of North, and has been included in the disaster assistance from the federal government, we need to come together as a group and make sure that we are treated fairly and can come out of this without being financially ruined.
If someone who reads this post has experience on setting up a website for all of us that have been impacted by this disaster can join and communicate on, or knows of someone that does and maybe was affected, I would greatly appreciate getting contacted at floodvictims2011@gmail.com, so we can look into getting something started as a forum to share stories, advice and stay united.  I am looking for people that most likely have a horse in the race, or at least have the compassion to help those of us that do.  It is my belief that if we allow the government to keep us separated, than we have no recourse but to accept what they are willing to give us.  However, if we can become united, we stand a better chance of coming out of this maybe a little closer to where we were before this catastrophy halted our lives.
If somebody is or knows a lawyer that is willing to become involved to help answer questions such as; what rights do we have as far as deferring our mortgage payments until we can get back into our homes, etc..., that would be incredibly helpful.

Please contact me at the email address above if you have something valid to share or advice to give.  Do not email if you do not wish to help or have something negative to say.  We need to begin a positive road to recovery for all that have been affected and the first thing we need to do is to come together.

Life is tough; its tougher if you're stupid!!!!

I currently do not have any advise as I still can't get to my house and have FEMA take a look.  I was advised that nothing can start until they look at it.  After we assess the damage we will start looking at our options.  You have a great idea and once I find out more I will share info.

I have been around floods since 1979 in the red  river valley. In 79 fema paid for everything. if you bought hip boots rain gear or pumps you took the slips to the county seat and they gave you a check. floods after that up to 97 were basicly the same. In 97 the buyouts around here were done with grant money that the state and local govt had to pay a %. since 97 all the assistance i have heard about is they off you low interest loans.in 97 i had crawl space damage and flood ins paid very little i ended up footing 80% of the bill to fix it right. I feel for minot residents but would be surprised if there are many free things offered. I hope i am wrong but that has been my experiance.I expect there will be buyouts if grant money can be secured.

Go to the following website to familiarize yourself with what needs to be done after the flood:

It will give you tips on pumping, cleaning etc.

Document any and all expenses you may have incurred before and after the flood, be ready to present that to the FEMA person.

The FEMA rep we spoke with told us that we do not need to wait for them before we start pumping out the water. once we are able to get in we can start the clean up. just make sure you document everything and pump out the water a little bit at a time.
What a frickin mess!!!

yes be very careful pumping the basements out.  If you pump it out and the ground outside is totally saturated you stand a good chance of having the concrete collapse.  The hydraulic pressure is very severe when it's that wet.  you need to do this over time as the ground dries up.

As far as starting a website or forum for people to talk and share stories, the easiest thing I can think of is starting a group on facebook.  Their is already one that is out there that is called flooded residents of Burleigh county or something close to that.
