I lived in Medora for the summer of 09. One question: are you working for the foundation or the park? If its for the foundation, you wont have any money any way so you might as well forget it. Now if you are working for the park, you're in business. You can fish the Little Missouri right here in town, you way catch a few cat fish. Use worms/nightcrawlers. There is nowhere to buy bait in town so you will have to buy it in Dickinson when you go in for groceries. Camel Hump dam west of Medora has rainbow trout in it. They usually run pretty deep; try mepps spinners. Don't think you will need the canoe, river is usually to shallow to use it anyway. Waders could come in handy. Good luck.

Camels Hump has some nice trout and Bluegills in it.  That's where I would go.  If you found some nice holes in the Little MO, they might suprise a guy as well.

Dickinson dike gets stocked in the spring with trout, and you can usually have a fun afternoon of catching those, its 35 miles for Medora.
Otherwise you will be about 110 miles from Sakakawea which is one of the best fishery in the state, however shore fishing it can be a bit of a buz kill.

Odlands hit or miss. Perch, Pike and some bluegills

Camels Hump has trout that'll hit Meps and Rooster tails...waders might help. There are Largemouth in there but I don't know how they are doing since I didn't fish it at all last year...Was to busy up at Sakakawea...

Also south of Medora in the Badlands is Davis Dam. It's full of Rainbow trout, nice bluegills/sunfish and Largemouth.

Beldield Dam (21 miles east) has a variety of fish also.

Patterson Dam in Dickinson was restocked with Walleye, Pike and perch, maybe some crappie too...Haven't been out there at all since the winter kill.

You'll find a bunch of  places to fish...gotta have time and money to it.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

i once caught a 9.6lbs rainbow trout in camel hump  it was on a white 3/8 ounce jig with a white twister tail.  i was fishing on the north side where there is a deep hole.  the guy i was with was catching a blue gill about every other cast.  i was still fishless he say to me count to 20 this time before i start reeling in.  i did when i got to 20 is started that is when the fish hit set the hook.  next thing you know is that i am in the whopper club.  i have fished the little mo.  many times there is lots of sauger in there not much size but still fun.  there is lots of ranches that have ponds that have fish in them that can be fun to fish.  where are you going to be working.

The river can be alot of fun between the catfish and if your lucky the sauger. All of the above have listed the closest.  Belfield i believe has trout, catfish, bass and sunfish/bluegill.  If you are strictly limited to shore fishing.  Andrus resort north of dunn center in early spring is great for northern.  Also, Tschida below the dam in the spring time is good for walleye but bring lots of jigs as you can go through alot of jigs.  Bowman/Haley has walleye, northern, havent fished there in a long time.  Also Indain Creek has good perch and walleye.  Prolly covers about everything within and hour and a half drive.

Davis Dam, south of Medora.  Bring your canoe, its a cool little lake.  Haven't fished it for quite some time but I fished it in a canoe.  Its also fairly sheltered so on a windy day it is still fishable from a canoe.  Bluegill, bass and trout from what I know.

I tried the little Mo not long after it went back into it's banks after the floods, should have been good but I got skunked. even when fishing the red and sheyenne with goldeye and sucker I get skunked most of the time.

I second Davis Dam being a neat little lake.  We used to fish it by canoe a few times a year when I lived in Dickinson 10+ years ago.  Bluegills were pretty small then for the most part a few nice trout and some smallish largemouths.  Maybe they all grew up now.  Usually only us or maybe one or two other people there and it's a pretty little spot.

Davis dam is still good for Trout, Bluegill, and Bass.  But yes a canoe or small boat would work the best. And bring TONS of repellant.  I tried this spring for trout and had two dozen ticks on me before even throwing a line in.   It's 20+ -  miles north of me .

Sometimes I aim to please, but mostly I just shoot to kill !
