Fishing near Medora?

I will be out in Medora from Thurs to Sun for business meetings and am wondering if there is a place I can sneak away to wet a line for a while.  I would prefer it to be within a 30 mile drive.  Trout would be preferred.

There was trout in Camels Hump Dam by Beach years back, know they had some low water there 3-4 years ago so not sure how it is now but that would be about 25 miles from Medora

Like Harley said I understand Camel Hump is a trout dam, I havent been there since I was about 6 years old when it got overrun with green sunfish that ended up growing to sizes much bigger than I have seen or heard of anywhere else, we caught them by the bucketsfull. After that the poisoned the lake and started over to bring the trout back. However that was 20+ years ago. Never tried oddland. Leland dam north of beach was dynamite for big gills years a back as well as some largemouth bass but had a tough few years since, I wanted to go check it out for a bit today but we got rain dumped on us again last night so I didnt wanna go tear up anyones road.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Camels Hump was stocked with trout in 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2001. there is also a nice 2002 year class of walleys in teh lake. Check out the ND G&F website for the fish stocking reports and you can see that they have taken pretty good care of teh impoundments in Golden Valley County.

Camels Hump is full of Trout and has some Largemouth Bass.

The place is full-up with water...Really full.

Last year we wore out the trout...Rooster Tails and Mepps...They like the darker colors.

The bass were hitting worms (Texas rig) and some spinners. We tried throwing cranks but the water was really low last year and there was a lot of vegetation...

I wouldn't bother with Buffalo Gap unless someone knows if Game and Fish stocked it...water was really low last year and I would suspect it winter killed. We caught nothing there last year.

Belfield also has a small pond on the southside of town with Bluegills and Largemouth.

Hope that helps...

I got into quite a few catfish up by the lost bridge a few years back, mostly 5-6 lb range the water was pretty low but that area is alot closer to the big lake than Medora.  It may be worth a try around the medora area if the water isnt blowing through the area still.

you might check out Davis Dam south of Medora about 25 or 30 miles...I haven't fished it in a few years but used to find the trout very hungry and eager to bite there on small panther martins and flies. Can be difficult fly fishing without a canor or waders tho...a lot more brush along steep banks compared to Camels Hump.
