Fish Creek Dam - Thursday, February 9, 2006
Can't believe some of these posts. Deeper water is colder in summer which should be obvious. Deeper water in winter is warmer, surface is ICE and if deeper was colder we would never get a HOLE drilled, which should also be obvious sheez

I have had problems with eating the fish from out there also. I havent kept any for a few years now. We were out there one day ice fishing and kept a limit of nice trout. Took them home cleaned them and fried'um up. Without a doubt the worst tasting fish ever. The only thing that I can think of that might cause the fowl taste is the change of water temps. Trout typically arent use to such drastic changes in water temp.

A little science lesson for all you so called fisherman. Fresh water is most dense at 4 degrees celcius(39.2 degrees fahrenheit). It freezes at 0 degrees celcius(32 degrees fahrenheit), therefore, the deeper water is 3-7 degrees warmer than the water just below the ice.
Hope that clears up the confusion. |

Yeah I though the deeper water was the coldest also. Most of the reports on this lake have been comming out of deep water. The water is so clear there you would think they may want to be deeper where it is a little darker. I bet I could see atleast 12ft down my hole. I didnt seen anything swim by. :( Any one else who goes out there will have to take a under water camera. If you cant catch them u sure could see them. Some times thats even better than catching.

Pwt
I have fished trout quite a bit in the winter and I have caught most of my fish in fairly shallow water up to just 2 feet of water under the ice. The reason is trout are a cold water fish and the shallower it is the colder it is. try shallow and that should net you some fish. tight lines Jason |

Hey Bassmaster,
I caught a Brown Trout on Fish Creek a couple of weeks ago. When I got it home, I cleaned it and found black spots in the meat. They were hard and reminded me of number 4 lead shot. Didn't want to take the chance so froze the fish and I am going to take it to a NDG&F Biologist when I get time. |

Was out today from 3-6. No bites and didnt mark many. 12in of ice. Fish 23-35ft with salomon eggs and gulp worm peices. I was the only one out there. Fished by the dam were the water is let out. Do trout suspend or are they next to the bottom in the winter?

I heard from a friend that went out here last weekend and caught a really nice rainbow trout. He took it home and he said it was the worst tasting trout he has ever had. Anyone else had this problem?

Fish Creek Dam - Monday, January 9, 2006
Went out Saturday, 1/7. Fished from 11:30 to around 4. Had a nice spot with good structure. Saw fish go by many times on the finder, but not one bite. There were three of us there with four holes, and not bites between us all. Probably four or five other parties on the lake that day. Saw the guys closest to us try to set the hook a couple times, but no fish. No driving. Everyone was walking out. Ice probably 8-10 inches where we were?
