Photo Description:
After quite a few years working on my rifle mount, have finally perfected it. First couple years rifle hunting I did not get too many shots. I believe only one. And I blew that chance. This year KDM told me I was going to shoot a buck and it was going to be on his land. After talking quite a bit during the summer, we devised a plan to build a blind that I could easily use. Last week we met again and worked out the wrinkles in the blind. Thursday went over to his land and we checked out the blind and how it would work. It would work well, but we found out Friday that the wind was going to be out of the South and that was bad. So yesterday on my way over KDM's, he came up with a new plan. We were not going to sit in the blind. We would just sit on his CRP and wait for the deer to start moving. I was surprised we had saw the first deer around one o'clock. Two healthy does with two fawns. After we saw them go by, we decided to move a little closer so we could see over a draw just in case something tried to sneak in. At 3 PM I noticed a deer sneaking out of the shelter belt in front of us. KDM said, "it's a buck." It took me a little while to get on him, probably close to a minute. I could not believe he just stood there. Yelled at him once to keep him there and he just stared at us. He was about 170 yards away, broadside. KDM said, "if you want him, shoot him. He isn't going to stand there all day." After I heard that, I pulled on the trigger and smacked him in the pump station. He hunched over immediately and ran about 30 yards and piled over. This is my first rifle kill and one that I will never forget. Thanks KDM and family.

This is our view from where we were sitting. He was shot right by the railroad tie fence post.

Tagged and ready to go in the bag.
