Thought i start a post to see who works in the oilfield and is a FBO member???

I went back to the oilfield in 2007 working for Patterson drilling around Mcgregor,ND.It was a old Kelly rig,not built for ND winters, froze my butt off that winter.Going back and working the floor was not easy at 47,was very stiff and sore for a long time. The rig got stack out in the spring, went to work for JBS trucking in Tioga hauling crude oil,it was also a tough winter to be driving the roads.Decided to take a break from the driving and went to work for Watco-Hess-loading railcars with oil...All three of these companys did extensive drug testing-hair and urine testing. Also to get a hazmat endorsment you get fingerprinted  and background check by the feds.Watco also did a background check to.With all the drug and saftey plans these companys had it does not take long to take out the TRASH-HA!

I've been in the field full time since August of 2010.  If the driving doesn't kill me, I will likely retire here.

Not really oilfield, but kind of.

Without a doubt, coming out into nature is one of the neatest things there is to do, but you also have to be careful. That’s why I always try to pack the heat — try to pack a gun. Just a little bit — pack some heat. Now this isn’t too — this isn’t much of a big boy, I don’t want to kill the animal, but I do want to warn it, and say “hey, I think you’re pretty neat, but I respect your distance.” There’s bears out here, there’s mountain cougars, and biting goats.

A hazmat is only used for hauling oil,fuel,propane,nh3  Not all fuel,gas,propane,nh3 is used in the oilfield. hazmat should be required for all cdl
Only a tanker endorsement is needed for the water haulers, straight cdl for gravel haulers and grain haulers.  Point is  it is not the TRASH that has the hazmat but all of the other employed that could not pass the background check.  Maybe 15% of all the oilfield has  hazmat and if that is the case then the remander 85% is the trash that needs to be cleaned up

Most of the mexicans in the oil field is issued from washington state and they need an interpeter and that is how they get the right answers to pass the test.

One bad apple does ruin a whole bag same as onions do unless it is left in the bag long enough

The best democrat platform a Republican can stand on it a manure pile

drug test everyone on welfare

Me.

Been eyeing it for a long time but was cautious.  After an opportunity arose I couldn't live with myself not knowing.  Worst thing to do is to sit at a job you kinda like but really don't like the pay and wonder WHAT IF.  So I made a move in June.

It is in my current career discipline and I'm learning valuable assets to further myself.  One thing is, always worried it may go away but again, that what if is too strong to mess with.  With the experience I am gathering it will be easier to capture future employment.  Going to ride this while I can.

I worked on an old kelly rig for Ensign for 4 years and now I drive around and check well sites all day. Alot easier on the back and knees but my belly is growing...glad I made the switch. Hopefully make a career out of it as well.

Actualy no, but in a way yes, more on a social level in a eyes and ears sort of way. It almost feels like the craziest social experiment ever.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Work for an oil company, but not in the field much. Mostly in the office and yard. Paycheck jumped over 25% from what I was making at a good job in Minot. Drive from Minot to Stanley and back everyday.

Me too again,  First hitch was 1977  till the late 80s -early 90s mostly on the drilling rigs but also casing crews, Workover rigs and roustabout.   This time around  it's Drilling conductor,Rat and Mouse holes.

Marksman,  This other 85% that you think is trash are actually some pretty good people.    Almost all of them have to piss in a bottle to go to work.     The bad apples are not the hands out in the field , They are the ones that that came here for the big money and can't pass the drug test so they are unemployed or working at stores  or selling drugs or stealing for a living.    The same thing that is going on around here happened in Salt Lake City when I was working there and there was no oilfield in SLC.

I roughnecked for several years, drilled and then went to Directional Drilling.  Pay is better but no schedule.  Work about 20 days a month.  Have five years of college that doesn't mean nothing out here but plan on going back and finishing my engineering degree in the future.  Just don't like the "office" work or "politics"  too much.
