Looking to buy a new gun for "everyday" use, whether it is to smack a coyote ot maybe fill a deer tag. I'm not a gun encyclopedia(not yet) like many of you fellas on here and looking for a bit of general info or opinions. Looked at a 22-250 and a 270 that i liked, not looking for anything fancy really(not yet) more just practical use. The 22-250 and 270 were Savage axis, which I know form reading on here previously they are either love or despise depending on who you are talking to.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Have you looked at the ruger gunsite scout rifle. Chambered in .308, 10rd mag and 16.5 in barrel and bolt action looks like a good gun
If everyone focused on the important things in life the world would have a shortage of fishing poles.

Remington 700 CDL, any standard length caliber between .243(6mm) and .308(7.62mm).  FWIW, I'd get a 7mm/08 but that's from a .284 fan.

I once took a salvage out and used it to rake the leaves in my yard.....it sucked at that too.

Do have a 223 already had it as long as I can remember think it was given bout the time I learned to shoot.

I have researched the savage axis myself and it is a very good, dependable entry level rifle.  I'm thinking about buying one for a beater gun for coyotes so I don't beat up my nicer wood guns.  Even though I only own remington rifles so far, you can't go wrong with the savage they are the most accurate rifle out there straight out of the box.  For your first rifle either the 22-250 or 270 are good guns but the 270 does have a little bit of recoil that could make a beginning shooter develop a flinch that is hard to get rid of so I would recommend the 22-250 over the 270.  I have shot many rifles in both calibers but for an all around varmint/deer gun I would recommend a 243.  I have many rifles from 22-250 up to 30-06 and if I had to choose only one rifle I would take my 243 any day, it is a great coyote gun and has dropped every deer I shot at in its tracks.

The .270 will give you more range and more knockdown power and is more of versatile gun. For coyotes I shoot 100 grainers out of my Rem. 270 and it doesnt kick much different than an old 243. Plus you can always go up to 130 grainers and have a good longer range gun ( 400 yards) for deer.

I have a 270 and they are good guns, I shoot 130 grainers but I still prefer my 243 with 100 grainers.  The 243 is also a good long range gun, I dropped a doe in her tracks at 400 yds, and have shot multiple deer over 300 yds.  As long as you know your rifle and can put the bullet where it counts the 243 will drop em just as well as a 270 and its a heck of a lot more fun to shoot.

Everyday gun...... any brand would be fine, everyday caliber...... .243 or 25-06. Personally I will never be able to get away from my 25-06, perfect caliber IMO

Howa m1500. One of the smoothest bolts around, simple, accurate, cheap. If I was getting an all around gun for mostly varmints and the occasional deer, I'd get a .243.

More deer are brusied because of bullet bounce than ever have been killed
the 243 is a good shooter but is will not go through a water bottle ar 250 yds it will if the jug is empty

25-06 is nice all around gun. My father in law has one and it never leaves his truck. I've shot it a lot and man it’s nice. Browning A bolt 25-06.

I purchased a  HOWA in 243 this year for my daughter to learn to shoot and was impressed.  They shoot great and are good for any size game up to deer size.  I am grouping about 1 1/2 inch at 200yds using 75 grain factory loads. Tempeted to use this myself with how good it is shooting.  If you are looking at getting a gun that will take some abuse, the stocks are rubber coated, so you do not have to worry much with beating them up.  Good luck!
Largest Bass to date.  9lbs 6 ozs... 26 in length 18 in girth caught from Choke Caynon resivor in TX.
