Has anyone used one of these? MinnKota makes one from what I read on their website. A salesman told my buddy that he should be able  to pull raps all day with one. It would be mounted on a 20 foot Skeeter. Any thoughts?

They do work.

You don't get nearly the amount of manuaverability from them that you'd get from a bow mount or transom mounted tiller.

Whether or not he'll be able to pull plugs with it will depend on what size electric motor he's looking at and what size boat he's got.

My 80# Terrova will pull my 18.5' Crestliner on flat water 2.1MPH-2.7MPH depending on outboard motor height and what load I've got.  That's running the motor wide open though.  I haven't the 1st clue how long a set of batteries lasts running wide open with the electric but I'd think it's less than "all-day".

Well he is going to get a bow mount.  He is trying to get away from having to put a kicker motor on. All day seems to good to be true unless a day is about 4 hours long.

IMO theres no way a 80 # will last more than 2-3 hours pulling plugs @ 2-2.5 mph.  On a wind day with 2 batterys and a 18.5 lund i have trouble making threw the day.

I can get 2 hrs off my trolling batteries pulling wide open on my 18.6 Stratos. pulling at 2 mph I get about 6 hrs. What I have found to be best and I don't have a kicker is to drop a drift sock and use the 150 4 stroke Yamaha. At idle speed I get 10 MPG.

No, if I back troll and i do often, I don't need the drift socks. The drift socks were the best purchase since the boat. One drift sock will keep me at 1.5-1.75 depending on the motion of the ocean. I use them whether it is calm or extremely windy and nomatter the depth u r in it never seems to bother the fish.

I use one on my 19' Rinell Cuddy, it works super for lake fishing.  Just shut it off and fire up the I/'O and off I go.  I need 2 battries when I troll in the Bay against the wind for Chinook.  But 1 battery will keep me going for a couple days in the high lakes.
